This is Reiver's final contribution to this, and possibly any other, thread.

Reiver has asked me to thank all the decent people who appreciate the information and post this message.

"Now that there's a 'conclusion' it's a good time to stop posting. The other information about the 'kick in the teeth', new owners' plans, the future of Ross and the replacements being considered will come out in time without my contribution. It's a shame that some posters can be vindictive and bitter without any good reason. The only common denominator seems to be a less than enthusiastic outlook on Sunderland. We have a bright future to look forward to and it's time for everyone to draw a line on the past. Haway the lads!"

For what it's worth, I can't disagree with a word of that. In the course of this and other threads, I've had my honesty, integrity and professional competence questioned. Like Reiver, I'm questioning the point of sharing anything at all because of the grief that comes with it.

It's been an issue in here since the early days. Someone has some insight or inside info to share. The majority appreciate it but a loud-mouthed, attention deficient, few get all bitter and start calling them liars or accusing them if showing off.

They become like a dog with a bone and won't drop it because it ends up getting them the attention they do desperately seek, even if that's people angry with them. Utterly pathetic but this is a public forum and you get people like that in all walks of life. They need to have a look at themselves but lack the self-awareness to do so. The result is that the forum at a whole loses out on decent sources.

Cheers for sharing on his behalf.

thanks to all the work you and Reiver done on this thread giving us the information most of us are very grateful well done and thanks again

On the scouting network - in this day and age why do you need scouts to identify if league players are any good. You have tons of stats feeding into databases. Fair enough maybe watching identified players to get a personal feeling if they suit a style etc. I think of scouts as someone watching lower league football to pick out missed gems etc. The lads we've taken on are generally proven at this level so I don't think scouting is the issue - it's the picking up the better players (which comes down to paying a bit more) and training/systems (which comes from the manager).
It comes down to trusting owld fellas in club parkas over the data you talk about. Contacts and relationships rather than using analytics to filter our targeting. If Coton is being given £500k to bolster our scouting it appears that this old dog isn’t gonna be learning any new tricks any time soon.

FWIW I'd trust a good scout over a bunch of stats at this point. The eye test is more important and useful than stats. I agree though that we're making life hard for ourselves if we disregard the numbers completely.

I agree with your comments totally. GOM please pass on people’s thanks to reiver for all his information.. and thanks to you for all your info also. Hopefully you both stay posting and passing on the info you get to us all. Thanks again.

spot on but there are those amongst us that have an agenda, lets not forget that
I don’t have an agenda, but I’m not putting much store in this second richest club line. For a start Dell is just a minority passive investor and after so many years of watching another Yank pump money in to no real effect, perhaps I’m a bit jaded, but I’m certainly not jumping up and down.

Mind if they come in and sack Ross straight off, I’ll offer them all a cheeky reach around.

For every numpty there are 50 people who believe and appreciate the honest info given - and would be gutted if it stopped here.

Thanks to both of you for your contributions... and Reiver - if you're reading.... don't go and I'm sure there'll be a big welcome back when you reappear!

Grumpy, what you and Reiver need to understand is that there are hundreds of people on here who appreciate all the information and analysis you are able to provide. Please pass that on to him.
Don’t let a few envious cretins who would love to have the info., but haven’t, spoil it for yourselves and all the other decent lads and lasses who get on here. They’ll always be here in one guise or another, don’t let them win.
Please!
