Ashes 5 test - The Oval

Its quite a difficult balancing act. They have invested in Denly and he has improved throughout the series where he now looks adequate and you have to remember this is a very good attack he is facing. I'm sitting on the fence only in so much that I dont really know the qualities of many playing in the CC. As you know I love to see Rocky succeed, I used to teach him when he was at school and know his family. However he has had a poor year and may even be dropped for Surrey's next game. I do see similarities in Stoneman and Denly in so much that they have both given test cricket a good go, havent disgraced themseleves but are probably just short of what is required to carve out a decent test career. Denly of course still has it in his own hands.

Fair post

I agree rocky not deserving of a recall just thr closest comparison I can think

I thought he was dropped far too soon considering it was Jennings who came back

Malan had glimpses too

The only problem with that is it’s good in theory, but sometimes with the quality fast bowlers like Australia have for example is that they bowl soo many good balls, that you bat for 10 or soo overs for next to nothing then gets out and we have no runs and wicket down, as ever it’s a question of balance.
It is but the main point would be to instill the mentality that it's a long format and runs don't have to come super fast

Don’t think much a problem as some make out, for instance in the last test we were very patient and played hardly any loose shots, just were undone by quality bowling.

The point to me is there needs to be balance because cricket is about runs, and if you overpatient you get out against good bowlers without getting many.

Denly could be playing for his test career here and is doing it well

Sir Benjamin starting to unleash

Lead now 201.

Oh an afternoon of potentially stokes, bairstow and buttler having free rein to lash Lyon out of the game would be very pleasant
