Ashes 5 test - The Oval

One thing I was disappointed with pre series was no test at Trent bridge. That ground has seen them beat time and again and it should have been on the itinerary

I know edgbaston was similar and we lost but we had the 122 for 8 and but for Anderson being injured imo we would have won again there.

The pitches at both old Trafford and Headingley were tailor made for the Aussies

Still win this match and their drought continues for a few more years

Genuinely no idea what his point is
A line often used by people who can’t handle a counter argument and know little about test cricket! I’m not interested in how talented he is or whether he is or isn’t world class. I will argue that his record since he returned to test cricket is as good as any of his teammates and in my view deserves his place in the team. Nothing more, nothing less.
Basically mate I wasnt addressing you.

I agree hes alright. I think theres other players who might be alright or better who deserve a go. But hes fine aye.

But in response to someone asking how dare I criticise such a sainted player, I responded with cold reality.

Aye ok fair enough!

Paine should retire. He's utterly crap.

He can go out on a high with this series as an Ashes retaining captain, about the only thing worth reading on his CV.

Still need an opener as imo Denly will be disposed of post this series.

Anderson is a big risk, that’s not disrespect but time catches up with everyone eventually. Broad another 18 months left?

Are England bowling like this so they don't have to bat tonight? Seems to be very little intent - no short stuff and surrounding the tail enders with catchers, just back of a length outside off stump garbage

I think this argument is a bit too firmly put but ultimately correct. The statistic about Buttler doing better than most over the last twelve months says a lot more about this being easily the worst batting line-up England have had in my lifetime at test level.

I'd probably keep him in at seven and wicket keeper. Just about, though he'll still go into the next series under pressure, with Foakes breathing down his neck. And part of my thinking on that is driven by the fact I'd be looking to blood two top order batsman and bring Pope in - which is a hefty reconstruction anyway, without bringing in new bowlers and/or a new keeper too.

Great this mind when he does poorly not very good, when he does well and better than his peers it’s becuase they not very good!

A player like him at 7 in his proper position as a keeper a counter attacking with his talent could be very very useful indeed.

The tailenders are also just showing its a still a good wicket.

How has foakes breathing down anyone’s neck? He’s not scoring any runs

Let’s just disband county cricket if awful form in that means nothing

Patience all. We are well ahead here. Tail end batting is always frustrating

Woakes is spent after lords imo.

Worked once
