High protein snacks

I’ve been using My Fitness Pal for the last week and I’ve found that I’ve been struggling to meet my protein targets on days where the calories in my meals means I don’t have scope to have a 2nd protein shake. I’m never a million miles away (19-21% when my target is 25%) but ideally I’d like to hit my macros as closely as possible (especially since it seems to be fat that takes the extra).

The main thing I think I can change is my morning snack. I’ve been having a Stoats cereal bar, which are the best tasting Katy bar I’ve had. However they are only 7% protein and 45% fat.

Does anyone have any suggestion for something that’s about the same price but higher in protein/lower in fat?

Greek yogurt? Pretty cheap

Whey tends to be the biggest protein hit for the cheapest mind.

Things like jerky are neigh in all protein but can be pricey

How expensive are the cereal bars?
About £2.50 for 4. I’ve been looking at protein bars at about double the price and might give them a go. I’m a bit of a creature of habit and looking for something to go with my 10:30am cup of tea.

What do your main meals look like? Any chance of adding more protein to them?

I can probably add more protein to my lunch (Lunch is usually oatcakes with either peanut butter or cream cheese/Dairylea, fruit, babybel and yoghurt).

I don’t eat a lot of meat, only really at tea time. Breakfast is muesli with protein shake instead of milk and a glass of apple juice.

Eggs, albeit also pretty high in fat.

Look at foodcirclesupermarket (Protein Bars - Shop Online | Food Circle Supermarket) for cheaper protein bars - personally I ignore the best before dates.

Tin of tuna.

Jerky - Lidl do a 25g bag for c. 89p that as @oROSSo says is virtually all protein.

yer I'd probably be looking to overhaul my main meals before concentrating on snacks. Obviously scope to up the protein, especially at lunch. Do you have a single or double scoop of whey for breakfast?

How many cals are you on?

I’m trying to shift the 2 Stone I put on stress-eating in my previous job so
It’s set to 2,310 which is meant to be 1lb a week.

Jerky tends to also be high in sugar as they coat it with flavourings. Biltong on the other hand, doesn't have all the sugar crap added, and would be my personal preference for that type of snack.

I make my own tbh, sugar and all, makes it taste better IMO with a bit flavouring

This is typical for me (about 1700 cals daily) on a training day. I’m unsure what % is protein as I don’t record it.

I work from 08:00 until 18:15 x4 days with a commute.

11:00 muesli + banana
12:00 ryvita slices + peanut butter
13:00 LIFTING HEAVY METAL
14:30 whey shake
15:00 cooked chicken breast on bagel
16:00 hard boiled eggs
17:30 Greek yoghut
20:00 evening meal with meat+veg

Cottage cheese, quark, skyr.

Be careful with the fruit skyrs if you buy them from Lidl (and probably elsewhere) - based on my blood sugar's reaction the carb count in them is painfully inaccurate (container states lower carbs than actual). The unflavoured one is bob on though.

Make your own snacks
Knock up your own flapjacks using whey protein. Knock up your own beef jerky. Dead easy, tastes class and pure protein.

Agreed, or the Biltong as well, I slightly prefer the ALDI verison though for 99p per bag, but theres nothing much in it, also in ALDI they do the little snack shots of Nuts in chilli and lime, like a poor mans GRAZE box, but at 29p per pack its a bargain and a quick little snack

If you can get hold of it, venison. We picked some up from the butcher on Saturday and had it for dinner last night. Tracking my macros closely at the moment as want to drop about 3kg, and when I put it in I was amazed at the percentage of protein yesterday. Looked into the nutritional information for venison and it has more protein (30g vs 26g) and 80% less fat (3g vs 12g) than steak.
