At the time, at that moment, with what seemed minutes to go until the window shut, we desperately needed a striker. I thought, ok that's a bit steep but fuck it, he'll score the goals to get us up and nobody will care. Like I say, easy in hindsight.
It's OK for us to say "fuck it" however the club should have had a plan so "fuck it" doesn't happen

I have no disagreement that SD bought the club with no debt. But your idea that he was the only one able to do so is wrong

He was, however, the only one that Short wanted to sell to, principally because they were the only only ones wanting the club literally debt free; that is, without retaining access to and use of the internal loan between the club and Drumaville, the scale of which was an open invitation for an asset stripping sale and leaseback of the SoL, and using the proceeds to pay back the internal debt. A nice little tax free earner for them. That would have left the club in a Coventry type situation. Short, thankfully, had the wisdom to see that and do the best for the club, not himself.

You worded your post as if he just walked into a debt free club, and you know that's wrong, although you seem to have a lot of trouble admitting it.

He did though - or rather he told us he did, on day one he said this club is debt-free

The discussion was over the job he's done since then, with the resources available

So says SD.

The situation you've described is of course a potential one that could have arisen, but there had (nor has) been absolutely no suggestion anywhere that Short was willing at any time to sell to someone under those conditions.

Your point is basically based on SD saying something that could have happened but for which there's no information anywhere to suggest it was ever a likely possibility.
