F35 Lightning

Each pilot helmet is only £250k.

On that recent ITV fighter pilot documentary, a pilot couldn't log on so they had to turn the F35 off and back on again
Gonna be a laugh if that happens in a serious situation like

Promising stuff that a good old.turn it on and off again works mind

Seen that. Enjoyed the doc. There are cameras around the plane so if the pilot looks down or at the wing his helmet will display whats under the wing or cockpit so they can see pretty much 360 around the plane. Very clever stuff

£100m each
It's a meaningless number that can be adjusted depending who you are selling it to.

The real cost of ownership for military aircraft is in the running costs. The initial unit cost is just a headline number.

I have first hand experience of negotiating such a contract.

The one I was involved with ten years ago was for a 5 year spares and repairs package for Typhoon radar. Only the radar, nothing else in the weapon system.

That 5 year package was more than the £100M you've referenced above.

Loose lips man.

The Chinese love this post.

The Typhoon cost 130 million each when first developed. The cost of aircraft drops the more produced.
The Merlin helicopter was originally supposed to cost £20 million, but our lot are that useless they didnt order enough parts for the aircraft, and I was told that each aircraft ended up costing us around £70-£80 million in the end.

Think 100m is not bad for the f35. Remember watching a discovery program about 12 year ago on both lockheed and boeing i think was designing both planes. Great program showed how they had to change things and how they were going head to head. Loads of people involved.

Was that contract with the place I used to get my car serviced? Sounds similar prices.
