Is that the only trade that calls itself by its trade group?

TG 4? I don't know why any trade does, it always leads to 'So, what do you do?' Other than my trade group number the rest mean nothing to me.
If you fancy a bit further north (but not Lossie far north) give me a shout. I'll see what I can do. We've got no PFOM at the minute.

Cheers I'll keep that in mind, my new posting is a fair bit further south. I know one of the SNCOs here is desperate to get back over there

How tough would the courses be for someone who has been in 6+ years? I've often wondered how the NCA course or IOT would be like.
Sorry for the delay mate, been on holiday. Someone with 6 years experience will find it easier than some one off the street. You've got the knowledge and some of the skills, its just putting them all together. Fitness is a big thing for NCA, not so much IOT but the leadership tests for NCA are at Otterburn.
I did CBAT last year, which was interesting, managed to pass for controller and WSOP and I was definitely tempted by WSOP just not enough to go through SNCO training. I've been at my current place almost 5 years, like the area but fed up with the job so a similar position to you.

If you haven't already, check out the Student Room, loads of good info for OASC and the whole process
Do it! The change from being an FOA to SNCO WSOp is massive (Ex FOA/FOM here). You're already air minded which is a big thing for the NCA course and you understand the basics. If you want to chat about it, let me know.

Reading this thread, you’d need to be an Intelligence Analyst to interpret all the acronyms.

I've been in 5 years and I still struggle with some of them.

Cheers mate I'll keep that in mind, posted overseas for 3 years from December so any change might not happen soon.

Surprised @niceonemarra hasn't posted on this thread considering he was a pilot in the RAF for 2 years.

I have piloted an RAF Typhoon it was like the big black and yellow ejector handle was bigger than the dashboard and would probably have to be activated due to the Typhoon being an outdated class of fighter aircraft.

From 2017 ^^^

Probably because the new title of the trade is a bit vomit inducing in the eyes of the old sweats, and previous titles weren't much better.

Morning,

My 18yr old went for his RAF test yesterday and did ok, in fact one mark from the various engineering options that he was really after. However he still has various options, he is seriously considering 'Survival Equipment Specialist' and 'Intelligence Analyst'. Just wondering if anyone of you have experience of this? And whether these could be useful if/when he leaves service and enters civilian life.

Other options that he can do include 'Firefighter', 'PTI', 'Personnel Support' and 'Pharmacy Technician'

Cheers

I had a couple of mates I went through basic with that went Intelligence Analyst and absolutely hated it, one has left and one in the process of leaving. It sounds like a cool job title but they said the work itself was mind numbing and a glorified desk jockey. You get posted to sneaky beaky places too that are cut off from the rest of the RAF so I can't imagine the camps and socials are up to much either (not that the socials anywhere are particularly good these days, Lossie aside).

If he's interested in engineering the first one is probably the closest to it of the ones you listed.
If he only missed out by one point is there no chance of a resit?

It's basically reading stuff then summarising it. Not a very interesting job tbh.

But if it leads to a pharmacy qual they get a decent wedge.
After a four year masters degree and another year pre-registration.

He’s got his interview on Wednesday so fingers crossed, thanks for input.

Just don't let the recruiters shoe horn him into a job he doesn't want to do or isn't interested in. They obviously have quotas to fill and recruit for various positions depending on the needs of the service at the time. If they said that be can change trades once in then take it with a pinch of salt, while it can be done it's not as easy as they make out.
