You’re talking about the side a few years later

No I’m not. I’m talking about Nasser Hussain’s captaincy between 1999 up until he resigned for Vaughan to take over. We beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka away, beat the Windies at home and competed against all sides barring the Aussies. England had better opening batsmen (Atherton and Trescothick then Trescothick and Vaughan), better middle order batsmen in Butcher, Thorpe and Hussain and a better wicket keeper batsman in Alec Stewart. They were all around in the period 1999 to 2003

The reason why England have dragged this out till the evening session is because Lyon hasn't delivered (yet). The seamers are having to do the bulk of the work, shouldn't be the case.

We said yesterday this was the key to England having any sort of chance was if Lyon was shyte.

You have to give that Aussie team of the same era credit. Probably in the best 2/3 test sides of the modern era.

Lyon has been terrible since birminghsm

6 wickets at 60 odd

We’ve played him well most of the series

People keep calling him a world class spinner but he averages 32, not much better than Moeen. He can be very good on his day, but he has a lot of games like this.

There are no world class spinners in truth, Lyon just looks good because everyone else is crap.
