The UK net zero carbon emissions thread

Well you look down on the poor and single mothers as demonstrated in this thread, so if more people are unfortunate enough to lose their jobs and become poorer as result it seems a reasonable conclusion you would also look down on them. You don't exactly come across as a caring individual.
single mothers bleeding the system i have no time for, same as alcoholics and druggies, hardly looking down on people is it? anyway they will all be fine once brexit arrives and the £39 billion goes their way, rejoice rejoice rejoice sunny uplands await, milk and honey awaits, zero carbon emissions await

It means thrown away food rather than packaging, I believe although packaging is bad too.

The carbon emissions that are produced in the growing, packing, shipping and storing food that is then thrown away because it goes off, is apparently quite high.
Ah right. I thought rotting food was more methane than carbon per se, but still harmful none the less.
And by the by after a bit of digging (scuse the pun) I found out that current thiniking is 1 square km of grass will negate about 1000 peoples exhalation. Kind of begs the question to me anyway, why are we cramming housing in in every square inch of Britain to the point of encroaching on green belt and even destruction of it. Thats before you even get the removal of land that would help alleviate the problems caused by rising water levels, more frequent and heavier rainfall etc

I forgot I also have a 100% green energy tariff. Apparently let all of the energy I consume is from renewable sources and I pay a little bit extra for it. I have literally no idea how they calculate it, but it felt like a good idea. I have a smart meter and I try to keep my consumption down.
Bulb? We've just switched all of our stores to them. Mind it helps our cfo is big supporter of all this. Even doesn't use toothpaste in tubes.

Who is it with Hells? The green energy market is a bit of a con and many tariffs are not truly green. I was at a lunch a couple of months ago with one of the top boys at good energy. They are one of the better ones - but not the cheapest. I have a weekly e-mail from energy live news which is quite informative in showing how many little projects are going on.

methane is a lot worse than carbon

Totally off the original topic, but I went on a hot air balloon ride last week, and we are definitely not out of green space. Not even close.

OVO.

OVO. Been with them a few years now, I think they were one of the first so I’d be up for shifting if they’re not that legit.

Fair enough. Like most i`m not that up the science of it other than the basics, so we let food rot in proper places some kind of retort or giant compost bin and burn the collected methane to produce elctrickery. Mulch the left over solids to feed more newly planted grass to offset/convert the C2O the methane gives of as a product of combustion. And filter and reuse the water created( the other by product) Simples

Was it good? And it kind of is on topic. I honestly believe that we are way past saturation point already and saying we have plenty left is dangerous. For a start we can`t just simply say we have enough green space left so Britain will be ok. We are going to have to compensate for other places that dont have to carbon reducing elements for a start. It`s all very well stopping other countries de-foresting and building but unless we get them to start to roll back what they have already done I think we are knackered

I was with them many years before I changed to Bulb. I will have a look at how they perform when I get a chance. For example Shell energy who were first utility buy a lot of renewable energy certificates so they can say they they supply renewables as opposed to actually buying direct from renewable sources (or something like that). There will be others on here who can explain it better, but it can be a bit of a con really

Further to my earlier response have a look on the Good energy website homepage. There is a link on there that explains about greenwashing in easy to understand terms.

Yeah, it was excellent. And loads of space to see. ;)

great idea, save on the NHS costs, then the £39 billion can go on tax cuts for the high earners like Boris has promised, win win win 😃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🦃
Tax cuts to Elton John, who can then pay to offset Britain's carbon footprint. Sorted.
once we become the 51st state,5 litre chevvys will be common on our roads after agent orange gives us phonomenal deal to buy them, the UK wont be interested in low emissions,we are bigger and better than those EU do gooders, watch us grow while the EU implodes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🦃
We're committed to become carbon neutral before any other EU state.
The EU not do-gooding enough.
£100 a week housing benefit,£80-90 a week JSA,child benefit £20 and whatever else they can claim,of coarse it uses up money if you think otherwise you need help 🙄 🦃 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Can save on giving free benefits, education, and healthcare to Europeans after Brexit. Will stop them using up all the money 👍 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

thats red bus talk from 5 years ago,its long since been established that barely anything will be saved, never mind all the money,it wouldnt even scratch the surface of the £88 bn needed for what HS2 has gone over budget, which englander planned that balls up
😆🦃😆🦃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
It's 2050 isn't it? Along with 23 other EU member states.

Finland and Sweden have targets earlier than that.
we will follow uncle sam and commit to 2150 🙄 🇺🇲 🐑

The big red bus money is different to benefits etc.
The net money we give the EU would pay HS2 off in 8 to 9 years.... that's a canny scratch. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 👍
