Many managers change the system depending on the opposition. Maybe he wanted to give it a go but then realised quite quickly we don't have the players to pull it off.
He's wasted 2 games doing it. Changing a system like that takes time. Was a bit daft doing it in the first place but if you do commit it has to be for more than 2 games.

This is perfect summation of 'damned if you do and damned if you dont'.

Its good he has changed and not stubbornly stuck to the same plan, but he should have done it sooner. Also, it proves how weak and clueless he is as he should have stuck to his guns after introducing and practicing a new system.
Hahaha that's amazing so he's spineless for changing the system even though you think he should've changed it quicker than 135 minutes of football

was ludicrous to even attempt the system pre-season and then proceed not to buy any players for it

at least he's changed it though as i thought he may be to stubborn to ditch it this soon
To be fair McClaughlin has played right side of a three, Willis brought pace, O'Nien and Gooch could be decent WB's and Humes game looks better suited to an attacking full back/ wing back tactically As did Oviedo. We were really only a good left sided centre half away from it potentially working. I suspect we only went with it because we thought McGeady would be out longer and it looked like it could offer width and some attacking intent with two up front. The problem has been that Hume has found the step up really difficult, not helped by Flanagan not really being adept on the left.
Pleased he's changed it though!

Does everyone really think he's gone to a back four as a masterstroke or just because our only LWB is missing ?
Either way for me I hope he's got them up for it...get them on the their back foot from the off Jack.

Six posts in and you see exactly why Ross says, "Damned if you do, damned if you don't."

Not at all, he changed the formation the other night and we won. He stuck with the formation against Ipswich and we were absolutely awful. That was a poor comment from Ross, he ought to have accepted the blame.

the problem for me is not only the formation it's the negative approach he has to games

regardless of formation i'd love to see him go for it and take the game to them from the off especially at home. i just don't see it though as it would go against what he's been doing for months now. he's so concerned with not losing he's forgotten how to kill games

we shall see
