Dylan McGeouch

That's certainly what I'd be looking to do. Dobson has a bit of presence and pace about him which we have been sadly lacking. His passing is decent too.

I'd play Power and Leadbitter in the League Cup and if either of them had a decent game McGeouch would be out for me.

For me I’d only put one or the other in alongside Dobson and see if that improves our momentum up the pitch.

I’d like to see us start with essentially the same team and system we finished with yesterday and play some damn football.

We haven't a clue how to transition defence into attack, it seems that some players always play defensively whatever the situation so it looks like there is an invisible forcefield across the halfway line.

I agree with you mate. I've never seen the attraction with him. Not really sure how anyone can move so slowly and get injured so much.
We will never get anywhere with him in the team.
Totally agree with this...last season people were screaming to get him back in the team after his injury..yet I couldn’t understand why...he always seems to be anonymous when he is playing..rather see Grant on the field even if he does only last 70 mins

But even if he doesn't look to shoot he must make some sort of forward movement as that pulls a player towards him and perhaps makes space for a team mate.

Playing hot square potato will contribute very little to the team as a whole.
He did that against oxford though imo. He was poor and negative yesterday though I agree.

If ever a footballer epitomises his manager it’s this little fraud. Negative as hell, not a single shot on target in his SAFC career from our midfield dynamo. Slow, no presence, passes backwards and sideways and stops any sort of momentum. I can totally understand why Ross, who knew him so well from Scotland was hell bent on signing him and making him one of the highest paid players this league has ever seen. A negative sick note.

Passes backwards, sideways etc.........do you mean keeps possession????
McGeouch divides this board ...... into those who understand football and think he’s very capable and those who don’t understand football.

Tidied for you

I will always stand by the fact McGeouch is underrated, I think sometimes he is like the invisible glue that holds the midfield together, composed on the ball and can pick out a pass. Everyone needs a player like that. He doesn't need to be scoring 🤷‍♀️

You don't understand football. Watch a different sport.

Mcgeoch is a defensive midfield player and generally plays the role quite well , he accepts the ball and retains the ball well rarely giving it away , ball retention is important , if the opposition don't have the ball they don't score . Teammates have to show for the ball which has been a problem and we need to improve in this area .Dobson and Power should be able to play alongside him and support the three strikers as they would have the legs to do it . O'Nien was a capable right full back and the experience gained last year would stand him in good stead ,I think reverting to a back four is essential and signing a new left back a priority .

Some of the posters on this form have a real problem assessing Mcgeouch. To some extent, I understand it. We are so used to watching players pass to the opposition and those who are sloppy in possession. And yes, invariably, he finds his man.

Nevertheless, that is not enough in a league one team. You can't have "recyclers" in this division. He isn't particularly a good one at that. He makes around three key interceptions per game. He is weak, slow, negative, lacks imagination and fragile.

Like many others, I bought into the hype around him when he first arrived. I think a lot of people are still stuck in that mode. The fact is, he would not have got in any of the top 10 teams in this league last season. If we can somehow offload him in the next two weeks, we must do it. I can't bear watching him. The queasiness I'm feeling from my hangover has just been worsened after reading him being compared to Kante and Sergio Busquets.

Well done, on a weekend of knee jerking and shite spouting on here, you take the biscuit pal!!!🙈🙈🙈

Did you expect Cattermole to chip in half a dozen goals last season? That's not his role but he did it for the good of the team. We haven't got the players to carry a water carrier, a blind man can see it.

He did it almost entirely from set pieces due to being one of the less small players we have. Wasn’t exactly marauding from cm. whatever suits your agenda
