Ross calls for perspective

He's starting to sound like Moyes. The alarm bells rang loud and clear on Saturday when he talked about getting 30 crosses into the box as some kind of achievement. Moyes said something similar when he was manager of Man Utd and now this talk about perspective sounds a lot like Moyes's comments after the Middlesbrough game.

He uses stats to dismiss poor performances and then describes criticism of poor performances as myths. I don't dislike the bloke, far from it, but imo he's really struggling with the exlextations of us dominating games at this level

My perspective, which is one taken from a distance, is that a club with (supposed) Premier League set-up and facilities that is incredibly well supported has plummeted to the position whereby the only manager they can get is one that is unable to extricate it from the third division and who is apparently unable to achieve much above a stream of 1-1 draws against clubs and teams that about three years + ago would be literally and figuratively not have been considered to be in the same league. And it's very sad.

Am sorry that is total crap , he offered nothing going forward and was too slow in his defending , even tho Onien was shoehorned into playing at RB , his attacking prowess far outweighed his defensive frailalties .
As I stated yesterday on this very thread, Matthews registered 5 assists in 24 appearances - the second highest at the club. O'Nien only made 3 from 40 appearances, and whether or not they were all from right back I'm not sure.

O'Nien's "attacking prowess" was at times non-existent. He often lingered near the halfway line. He often didn't offer a run. His final ball was often sorely lacking. He simply was not a very good outlet at right back - this was evident when Flanagan started hoofing the ball here there and everywhere, whereas earlier in the season Matthews was actively collecting the ball from him and getting the ball up the pitch.

Said it after play off final he needed to go. A lot of people shouting about stability but what’s the point in watching Jack Dross’ style of football. We will get no where from it. Problem you have now is that we decided to stick, he’s got to be given a fair craic as what’s the point in bringing a manager in now? After bloody pre season.

Once you start talking about the fans needing perspective, reality as opposed to supposed lofty expectations, questioning your star players' ability, and justifying poor performances with complete bollocks, then it's game over I'm afraid.

This isn’t going to end well.

It feels like an extension of last season rather than a fresh start. Football fans aren’t daft, we’ve all got a good idea of what’s going on and for him to try and dismiss that as not understanding is poor.

I think he is struggling and is hoping something fits. Although we werent great last season, 4 at the back was definitely better suited than 3, so a massive shift to a different formation with a load of new players seems to me to be knee jerk.

I hope he turns it around and he seems like an honest decent bloke but I have my doubts.

Strong stuff from yourself mate and a little unusual. What's tipped you over the edge ?
It’s just the latest in a long line of unforgivably dumb things that have come from the club since Donald came in. From Donald talking about Coton’s value coming from his contacts, to him kissing himself cause he got fleeced for Grigg, to ‘xG is for betting’ from Ross. Then you’ve got ‘we’ve got analysts, their data bores me but anyway let’s talk about how much I’m spending on players’ from Donald, ‘we went for players who got promoted before’ and now this. Each and every time I’ve winced at the lack of intelligence from SAFC but hoped it was situational. I think I’ve reached my limit now. The only place where I’ve seen us talk with intelligence and be forward thinking is with Paul Reid and the Academy.

O’Nien did well, however it’s wrong to say Matthews offered nothing going forward. He looked very good for a while. Then got injured. Again :mad:

Paul Reid talks well and I genuinely believe the way he wants the academy to be run won't happen and that will be of no fault of his own.

This. I like the bloke and wanted him to be giving another chance this season. I genuinely thought with more time and a full pre season we’d be more in line with how he claimed he wanted us playing when he first arrived.

Unfortunately it’s looks as though I was wrong

I don’t think anyone has anything personal to sling at him. He had a reputation for playing attacking football at St Mirren, not sure why he doesn’t implement it here.

Certainly have the bodies for it!

you his agent like, aye lets just all give up

Have you even followed Big Sams career at all? He has a massive ego. He loves money. he lives for a pay out. He is a proven Premier League fire fighter. He will save you from relegation.

Why is it so hard for our fans to accept that he is way beyond our means?1 He would command a very very large salary. He would be the highest paid manager in league one by some distance. There's no way we could fund that.

What word are you living in FFS? Or are you on a fishing trip?

I honestly think, looking at the players, i dont think they are having ross personally. They are only human like everyone else. Everyone here will have had managers where you think, "this fella doesn't know what hes doing". They arent daft, they see him spending good money for this level, they see him changing formation constantly, they see him playing players out of position, they see him not reacting when a match isnt going to plan. They will look around the place and look at the squad weve got for this level and think, like the rest of the footballing world, that any manager worth his salt should have had us promoted. If hes as dour around the place as he is in public hes not going to inspire confidence in them that its going to change either.

How would you know if he's not been asked ? it's a simple yes or no

While I absolutely understand the need for stability and to break the cycle of regularly sacking managers, this fella has to go. Why do I say that? Unfortunately, Ross has demonstrated himself to be a very poor manager and there is no sign of incremental improvement in the team at all.

Ross seems unable to determine his best side and is incapable of setting a team up that is able to create anything for whichever poor sod is playing up front. I'm not saying that Grigg is a world beater but even Harry Kane would struggle to score in our team as the midfield simply do not link play with the forward line and the whole team looks slow and pedestrian in terms of build up play. This problem was apparent for most of last season, during pre-season and again last Saturday. Unfortunately, there seems little chance that Ross has the ability to improve things. I would give him another couple of games at most to turn things around (though I don't think that he will) and then get rid.
