Ross calls for perspective

Fans to blame if we don't go up then?
No, not to blame that we don’t go up.
Perhaps as fans we need to adjust our expectations. We have a shit team and and a big ground. We are the other ckubs’ Cup final which makes it harder for us to get promoted than any other team in the league. We almost got there. Not 10th not 15th, not relegated....

We have every chance of getting promoted this season. Why not get behind the team and support them? Is it just us that cries for the manager’s head, or is it that what other clubs do?

Nah just a lot of people can see the manager is failing.

This and statements like it are beginning to really wind me up.

I’m getting fed up of being told to lower my expectations and the ready made list of excuses is getting very irksome.

Other sides cup finals, our players have to handle the pressure of playing at the Sol, etc etc.

The time for excuses is over !!!

We are by far and away the biggest club in this league. It’s a complete embarrassment that we’re now stuck in this tinpot league for another season after the incompetence of last year.
Any decent player at this level would love the chance to play for us and combined with the players already at the club any decent manager would surely galvanise those resources into a promotion winning squad.

We should be smashing teams at the sol not looking for excuses for another 1-1.

How about we have a better team than the other teams in the league????

Just a thought...

With our relative resources this league should be a no contest, it simply isn’t acceptable for SAFC to be “hoping” to get out of this league. We should be making bloody well sure that we do!!!

Biggest perhaps, yet we have a squad full of mostly shit players. It is the quality of players that dictates the final position at the end of the season. The table doesn’t lie.

I’m suggesting that I might be clouded because of rose tinted specs.

I remember as a youngun writing to Terry Butcher begging him not to sell Gary Owers because he was class and he (Butcher) just hadn’t seen it yet. In actual fact it was only because I’d watched him every week but hadn’t watched the other few hundred professional footballers at other clubs who were equally as good if it better.

We may well have the best team in the league (we can revisit this in May) but the fact we are the biggest club does not guarantee that.

"How to win friends and influence people" by Mr. J Ross.

Sounds like a dead man walking - trying to justify his position. Even if it was Football Manager in your bedroom you'd be unhappy with the last 6 months that has been served up - doesn't matter what league you are in.

I'm sure he isn't that stupid, but he is starting to sound lost, and the job is too big for him, and he never 'got the fans'.

Understanding the fans, that pay money is a basic requirement. We don't want to win the premier league (yet), we want to see attractive, positive football, and with our budget dominating games in this league.

Saturday we had 3 shots on target! 3! At home! Doesn't matter how many millions of crosses went in Jack, lad!

I have just checked over the last ten seasons 4 teams have got automatic promotion with less than 80 goals. Average is 82 and given our goals massively dried up in the second half of last season we would have got 72 if we replicate that level I really don't get his point.
If his prescription to fix the season is that clean sheets alone will get us up, he’s dead wrong. He’s looking solely at the result and not the process. It’s facile thinking once again from a football club that is pretty dumb from top to bottom, quite frankly. If this is all that the Donald regime is capable of serving up, I want the lot of them gone tbh.

Saturday goes to show we need to score more than 1 to win a game. Go with that philosophy rather bore the opposition into submission with defensive football

Strong stuff from yourself mate and a little unusual. What's tipped you over the edge ?

You haven't improved much since he left, and you've spent a lot of money.
when he left we'd won 2 out out of 23 premier league games while playing dire football

things are a million percent better now, games are something to look forward to and I love watching our side and how they play

night and day to how it was under him - it's not ALL about results and league position

though I'll never tell anyone he did a bad job, he did well for us, it just wasn't enjoyable to watch

I can't agree.

We were always a far better side with Cattermole in it.

Matthews started the season very well, and won player of the month for October. He made 5 assists in 24 appearances which was the second highest for the season behind Gooch's 7, and level with Maguire also on 5. Bryan Oviedo incidentally made 4 in 26 apps. Not bad for a couple of lads who effectively missed half the season through either injury or Ross's preference for Luke O'Nien (3 assists in 40 appearances) and Reece James (2 assists in 29 appearances).
Wasn’t aware Mathews had ever played well for us , that player of the moth award I find bizarre, he was woeful on the few occasions he played , a terrible signing.

We were a miles more effective side with him at right back last season than we were with O'Nien.
Am sorry that is total crap , he offered nothing going forward and was too slow in his defending , even tho Onien was shoehorned into playing at RB , his attacking prowess far outweighed his defensive frailalties .

Well that's completely untrue and 100% bullshit. He made 6 assists.

Hes simply a better right back than O'Nien. Why we persisted with him at RB ahead of Matthews baffles me
