FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

That was an even worse selection than Ali. Same injury as Sedbergh, clearly should not have been passed fit.

Agreed. Australia in front for me. 300+ and they will win. Gary won't bowl as poorly as Moeen.

Did you realise Ali is the highest wicket taker in the world since August 2018. Getting those 47 wickets at 24. That's probably why he was selected.

No disrespect mate, but you are very negative poster mind where England cricket is concerned.

If there is negative or positive to take from anything you seem to take the negative nearly all the time

You seemed to do that quite often during the World Cup.

Of course England could lose this test match but there definitely not currently behind in it, they have played the best cricket of the two teams.

We are still ahead but Smith doesn't look like he's ever going to get out. If they set us anything over 200 I'll be worried.

Others will know more about him but is he a great player of a bouncer? We never seem to use that against him.

Plenty seem to fall into that category. Looking through the thread you'd think we have been hammered from ball one yet we've never been behind truth be told.
lyon will be lethal

He will have to up his game then. Left handers should be his bread and butter and he struggled.

Another enthralling day and if it was anyone other than Smith at the crease the odds would be massively in our favour.

What are the odds of Paine not making it to the end of the series and the captaincy being returned to Smith? The latter seems to be calling the shots left right and centre.
Reviewing Smith's suspension conditions he is not eligible for vice or captain positions until 12 months has elapsed after his return.
Without doubt Smith is a 'must have' in the Aussie batting ranks; however, I would argue strongly against his holding the TOP job after seeing his schoolboy antics when under pressure on numerous occasions against TOP teams.

Agreed, Paine is not the man, either Captain or Wicket Keeper. With Carey in the wings wicket keeping is a 'no brainer'; however, CAPTAIN!

lyon bowling on a day 2 pitch isnt comparable to bowling on a day 5 pitch
