FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

Need some luck here to get Smith out.

I know Smith is a fantastic batsman, but we're not seeing any particular strategy to deal with him, which is pretty poor considering the damage he has done in every other series. We had 9 players on the boundary in the first innings.

The SAffers made him look mortal against left arm spin last year. This is why I was banging on about the importance of picking Leach.
These tactics from Root are f***ing baffling mind. Giving both batsmen easy as fuck singles
Neither of these bowlers is any good at creating pressure, both impact bowlers.

Archer can bowl left arm spin ;-)

With Smith's stats against left arm spin and Ali being rank out of form and confidence it does look pretty criminal not to be playing Jack Leach

Big question marks about the selection of Ali after this match. On a slow wicket that has given occasional sharp turn he's gone at over five an over.

I would be confident of England chasing up to 250 if they apply themselves well. Pitch is still good, and although its spinning a bit its hardly a raging turner.
