roy still not a test player for me like....first country i ever recall using a pinch hitter type opener was india early 80's with srikanth
oh for a boycott, ammiss, tavare/edrich front 3
about boycott and tavare, ridiculous to think we opened with those 2 in one dayers lol

Really need a good partnership. Need 1 of these 2 to go on and bat for a good few hours. Just can't afford to be 50/3
 
Roy can't help himself. He's not patient enough for test cricket.

For opening anyway. Its amazing how many people see the likes of him and hales smashing it around in ODI's and think that their success would be replicated in test cricket. Its a completely different sport and a test that is completely alien to them.

cant play roy 2nd test, its plain
Not as an opener. Not against giving him a go at 4 where he should be coming in after the main movement is gone. His technique and how hard his hands are will always get him into trouble opening in red ball cricket.

Agree with this but in the absence of credible alternatives he is worth a shot. Warner managed to transform himself from limited overs specialist to one of the best test openers around and hopefully Roy can replicate that. I do have my doubts however.
