FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

Not sure how anyone can think we are on top at moment. Allowing the Aussies to score 162 runs for their last two wickets has given them the momentum without doubt. Smith looks like he will never get out and we don’t seem to have a plan to deal with him. We are a bowler short, after the ridiculous decision to play Jimmy and Stokes and Moeen carry no real threat. Plus we have to bat last on a turning pitch and Lyon is more than decent. I fear the worst and hope I am way off the mark...but losing to the Cheats at Edgbaston would give them a massive psychological boost.

Totally agree. He's not a very pleasing player on the eye tbh but s such a tough wicket to get. It's why I compared him with Chanderpaul. Dorsnt really have textbook movements and shuffles across his stumps a lot, but churns out the runs. Where he differs mind is he is more adaptable to situations.
i see him more as a raul dravid

The definitely not bias English crowd didn’t forget

Indeed. Mind he is only fresh back in the game (and already making it look like he has never been away. I reckon if he goes the way he is he will end being remembered as a fantastic batsman who made a bad error. Not my opinion of the incident by the way, but that's how it'll go down.

Dont recall Dravid getting so far outside his off stump mind but fairy nuff, another class player.
Amongst all the doom and gloom, today should be the best day for batting.

Doom and gloom after day 1, where you lose the toss and knock a team over for under 300 LOL.

Talking about all the negative posts here you numpty
Also people saying we can't get Smith out, we beat the edge of his bat quite a few times yesterday before the ball died.
The key is getting him in before that happens, and hoping he nicks one in the next innings.

Well I felt mocked

And now I feel ashamed :(
Need one of the openers to go big

Not if neither of them do but another batsman does. FWIW I dont think either of the openers will post a big un all series.

I think its probably because we lost the toss and still knocked them over for 280.

Today is the best day for batting. That doesnt mean we will make the most of it mind.

Anderson doing sprints this morning. Probably make his injury worse.

I imagine it wont be long before we see a new opener introduced in the side.

Nothing about Roy suggests he can hold down a place as an opener in Test Cricket long term.

Roy will be gone unless he can somehow adapt his game. Look at him here, rock hard red ball, and instead of letting it come onto him he goes at the ball. Basically a limited overs player wearing white.

Makes far more sense to have him at 4 if Root was moving up. Let Burns open with another proper opener and drop Denly.
