George Dobson

emblton could play 10...and anyway are we setting up in the role with a 10 like last seaosn? i thought they were setting up in a way that mcnulty would be the guy in the 10..playing a different role..

embelton played as widest odff a midfield three ;lat year i think..not as winger..

At the minute i'm not entirely sure Ross knows what he's going to be playing as i have no idea where McGeady will fit into this 3-5-2 formation he's tried of late.

Suppose i'll just have to trust Ross and hope he's going to get it right this season.

And you put faith in our recruitment team do you?

I know he's been described as a holding midfielder by a number of media outlets and Walsalls forum. I know we've got an abundance of these already and i know he was playing for a team that finished in the bottom 3 last season. I personally think Robson with a bit of game time will be no worse than him.
You’re making some very absolute judgements considering you’ve never seen him play.

I don’t put a huge amount of faith in them no but I’m not going to provide an opinion on someone I’ve barely seen play. You think Robson will be no worse but you know nothing about Dobson, it’s just guess work and pointless.

Same goes for everyone else on this forum though claiming it's a good signing when truthfully no one has seen enough of him to comment and i'm pretty sure 95% of the forum didn't even know he existed until we were linked.

I just don't want to see a youth product not get a chance because of a signing who on paper is no better.

But the signing is younger, more experienced and now is also our young player. Its not like when we loan players and they get ahead of our own

Aye, the heady days when we spent big on big names we’d heard of. Like jack rodwell.
It doesn’t bother me that I haven’t heard of our signings. I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of divs 1/2 players but it’s clear players who have built careers at that level are capable of getting their teams out of div 1. Just look at Luton.
What matters to me is what they do on the pitch and I’ll be giving them a fair chance to show what they can do before passing judgment.
Hoping for the best , allowing sensible time for players to develop and gel and the manager to build does not mean settling for second best .
How long is “sensible time?” Of course, if any are any good they will be sold off in a flash. Jack Rodwell was in serious trouble before he came here, it was rank bad scouting and a lack of due diligence that was to blame.

Perhaps you haven't noticed, but we are in Div1/3rd division. Nobody wants that, but it's a reality you need to face up to.
You need to face up to the fact that a club the size of Sunderland cannot be sustained at this level fir very long. I take it you want a club. Not scaremongering common sense. We need the ability to buy the best players available and the organisation to get us up. I don’t believe we have either so far. Put your head back in the sand it’s better there until............!

we have the ability to buy the best available..we signed five promotion winners last year..spent more than all other teams combined...the resources are not in queson at this level...we are the man city of league one..

your right about sustainability..nbut spending more on footballers doesnt make you more sustainable...because there is no garuantee you will goup..as we saw lasy year when we spent more than every team and didnt go up..

Well there’s something seriously wrong. Either with the players, the manager, or your definition of “the best available.” Promotion was there for the taking with plenty of points to fight for. it was thrown away very cheaply. Two Wembley finals given away, in the end some of the poorest teams in the league were beating us with ease and using the same plan. Of course I’m sure you mags were delighted with that!

YES YOUR RIGHT SOMETHING WAS SERIOUSLY WRONG LAST YEAR...thats been acknowldged by everyone including the chirman...
t wasnt lack of spenidng on footballers though..

They have been saying that for years, you cannot deny that money is tight, that's why they needed external investment, Don has repeatedly said what they save now, they can use at a later date when we are in a higher division.
If only football was so easy, things don’t quite work like that! Look at the teams that took points off us last season.

So it was eithrr the footballers we spent it on, or the manager who failed to organise and motivate them. Or, we panicked and made a mess of it.

yes thats right..the first two..the manager didnt know what positons the players palay in because he dodnt know any english players so played expensive signings out of positon..

Just got this off a mate who has been a ST holder at Saddlers for many a year...

He was our best player, probably kept us up just about on his own the season before last when others had given up. Great attitude, loads of energy and technically very decent
With better players around him should be a great signing for you

I’m happy with that!
I’m not sure how a ST holder at Walsall who watched him regularly is better placed to comment on how good/poor he is when compared to Sunderland fans who’ve either never really watched him or seen him play for the opposition a couple of times mind ;)
