He's an inconsistent spinner, his bowling has come on over the years but he still averages nearer 40 than 30 with the ball and has a poor record against the Aussies.
Bollocks. Take it to politics please. Can only hope It's some protest against the blonde toff **** and his no deal plan to destroy UK Ireland relations
Being bowled.
Throwing tantrums.
Beggars can't be choosers. He's won a lot of matches for England.
Remarkably, he has one of the best strike rates for a spinner of all time (in the covered pitch era, anyway). And if you take out his absolutely lifting series down under then his stats are pretty decent full stop.
But, aye, you do have to watch to see if he is about to go off the deep end like that again. He's a confidence player I think, needs an arm round him. He batted well in the IPL this year, so really disappointing to see it drop off a cliff in the WC.
Strike rate is probably decent as a result of the speed of the game now, scoring rates are quicker and games are usually over in 3/4 days. I imagine a lot of modern bowlers have good strike rates.
He's currently out of form and can't be risked in the Ashes though, whatever his history.
Agree. Ali offers nothing with bat or ball at the moment. I know it's only one morning's play but what the fuck are we going to do about the top 3? They are walking wickets with a moving ball - apparently this is the first time Jason Roy has ever opened in red ball cricket? WTF are the selectors doing?
Aye, but his strike rate is up there with Warne's mate. I mean, really - churlish to not be impressed by that. It's better than his peers too.
He outbowled Leech (marginally) and Rashid (comfortably) through the winter, so I see no problem having him come in at eight and just waiting patiently for his batting to come back.
For context, Vettori averaged 34, Lyon averages 32 and even Swann, Kumble and Saqlain were only a smidge under 30It's impressive but when you look at his all-round game he's still a fairly average spinner IMO. Stats can be misleading but rarely in cricketing terms, for all his impressive strike rate he still averages 36 with the ball and whilst I can accept that spinners will usually go for more runs, he's hideously out of form currently and won't have played hardly any red ball cricket all season. Leach is a solid option and is more economical than Ali, I think he deserves to play and Ali doesn't.

He has a very good record. But yeah he is out of form
