Football manager by post?

Did anyone use to do it back in the day? You use to see the adverts in magazines like Shoot and Match. I have vague memories of doing it for a few weeks sometime I the late 80s I guess. Thinking back now I have no idea of how it worked, tactics, buying/selling players etc etc. Anyone have any better memories of it all?
Got mine from woolworths

Used to think it'd be good fun as a kid, but once the internet took off (makes me sound so old!) it all seemed a bit pointless.

Was a simpler time back then. I still remember trying to register my Sky Fantasy Football team using a combination of premium rate phone numbers and teletext :lol:

I'd forgotten about this

I signed up. On the form you got a chance to put down your three favourite teams. So I did and ended up with some Danish side, I didnt recognise and couldnt pronounce any of the players so I never did anything more with it.

There was chess by post as well I think

I played it. You all got put into different leagues and had to bid for players and wait to find out if you'd got them. Seems ludicrous now but it was briefly enjoyable then.

It was mint at the time like, I managed Bolton in one, and rang a lad up in rossendale (whereever that is) to try and sign a player and then after agreed both sent in transfer sheets that week and they new player would be printed in my squad the next week, used to love waiting for the post to see if I’d won me match that week !

Bloody hell this had gone from my memory. But I did this for a bit. Couldn't be Sunderland so ended up as an Italian serie b club I think. Cant remember who, but it was genuinely class waiting for the post to come to see how you'd got on!
