They’ll benefit from the experience of being involved in the first team squad and will have gained from training with higher quality players than they would’ve staying at home to play the likes of Morpeth.
This. Some of the criticism is bizarre tbh - it's standard stuff that's happened since time began, involving young players in the first team squad to give them a taste and some experience. They might grasp it and want more and it spurs them on, it may help them or they may wilt. Just another part of their development.
