George Dobson

Two different players and two positions so I don't see the point in trying to compare?

I think Honeyman is a squad player that probably starts more games than he should due to being Ross' favourite and being captain. He's had a handful of good games but a lot more bad, he's not a starter but could be useful from the bench.
The comparison is that you insist that I should want every SAFC player to do well. Do you want GH to do well for SAFC?

A pass to a team mate, not necessarily an assist. Keeps it moving, a bit like Bracewell.

I don't insist at all but surely as a Sunderland fan, even if you don't rate a player you would still want him to do well if he's in the starting 11?

I don't rate Honeyman enough for him to start every game but that doesn't mean I don't want him to have a blinder this season and prove me wrong.

Anyway, I think we've already established that we are of different opinions which is fair enough

If you can't see that he offers something different to the rest, ie comfortable on the ball under pressure, keeping the play moving then you might aswell give up on football tbh.
You'd think he had two left feet the way some people are going on.

Didn't see this but aye.

He would often slow things down, stop potential quick breaks and nearly always passed sideways or backwards. If that's your idea of keeping play moving then good for you.

Saying people who don't rate McGeouch should give up on football is one of the daftest things I've read on here, and I've read some pretty daft things.

Fabinho, Fernandinho, Matic, Ndidi.

Ok these players are on another level, but they’re effective without necessarily being eye catching.

My point was that just because a player ‘only passes sideways and keeps possession’ doesn’t make him shite.

Every single one of those players are dynamic, and get things moving forward. Fernandinho is one of the best players in the world at it. From what we saw last season, McGeouch is nothing like those players. I thought you'd have said Jorginho, who seems a closer comparison to me.

I like McGeoch, doesn't treat the ball like a hot potato and looks to play a pass rather than a punt. I think he was hindered by the fact that he never got an extended run in the team to find his form. His injury record isn't great, so it's possible that he never will. I would give him a good crack this season if I was Ross.

I agree that he's calm on the ball and reads the game well, but he needs to do a lot more next season.

So you think he's crap?

So you think he's decent?

Pleased you disagree/agree mate.

It's not my fault some people don't understand the basics tbf. It's there for everyone to see if they want to so not much I can do about it unfortunately.

I've made it clear what I think of him. Not everything has to be black or white. The amount of times we slowed the game down at completely the wrong time last season was unreal.

You're right about one thing though - many people don't understand the basics.

Yeah I'd keep him around as cover as it's a long season. Agree about the need for fresh blood though, we weren't good at all in midfield last season. The best midfielder was Cattermole and he's now left, think the others are lucky to be getting another go, especially Power, who in my opinion went missing a lot.

Honeymans stats alone were interesting but yeah I also didn't see the point in the comparison. Really he'd be competing with Gooch, McGeady or Maguire.

Do they?

Name these players?

Didier Deschamps - wata carrier.

He does a bit of most things and forward/mid-to long passing, his forte, is the best in the Prem.

Leadbitter does this all the time.

This, in fact people were saying he was often dropping too deep to receive the ball. The idea Mcgeouch is the only one to do it or offers anything more is f***ing fantasy.

Our only player who always shows for the ball, hence when he played we actually kept it on deck. Also reads the game best of our midfielders. Doesn’t go flying into tackles or try 40 yard raking passes every time so some don’t rate him, bizarre. Would much rather lose robson, power or honeyman than him.

Just not true though, Leadbitter always shows for the ball and comes short too, plus he's got a much much better range of passing, short or long. He maybe doesn't read the game quite as well (maybe that's due to him actually looking forward rather than sitting and just looking for runners) but he's also more combatative.

No problem with McGeough, but he isn't Paul Bracewell, the new Kante, his type of play hasn't invented the wheel or doing anything different for the team than some others, he's just a good(ish) player for a League One side and we have a few of them.

Why has this post turned into a McGeouch post, I keep opening it hoping to read about dobson and if he's close to signing but it's all about Dylan now.
