South Shields fans

Nonsense
Really don’t understand this lack of appreciation for non league football
South Shields fans are Shields fans because they’re from South Shields or follow the club
Clearly it has driven more fans because of success on the pitch but comments like this are just silly

People being saying the same about Gateshead fans for years mate. They are wrong about that as well, but you wont change their opinion because the people who come out with stuff like this are not non league fans and don't understand it at all.

Ignore them mate. It's like little bairns bitching on. Shields are doing fine and it's a good atmosphere there, with most being Sunderland fans really. It sounds like, generally, most people from both teams last night enjoyed it. Just people today, making themselves look silly by name calling.
Genuinely how many were Shields pulling in on Saturday afternoon 7 or 8 years back?
Aye, and how many did we get in the late 80s? About 25% of what we got in the Premier lezgue. This is pathetic, Sunderland supporters being holier than thou about their local non league club. Talk about insecurity.

This is stupid. I'm a Sunderland fan but I love in Newton Aycliffe so I sometimes go to watch them play. I don't really see the issue with Newcastle fans living in shirts going took watch them play. It's not like when they went down to Coventry

To be fair there are a lot of local non league clubs far closer to Sunderland than South Shields. Sunderland RCA (Where I will be tomorrow), Ryhope CW and Sunderland West End who have just been promoted to the Northern League to name just three.

Some right fannies on here frothing at the mouth about a non league club ...some folk need to get a grip...the way were going theres a slight chance it might be a league fixture in a few years....meltdown on here will be like our other Tyneside neighbours

And I wish them well, as should all Sunderland supporters. What people are trying to do making up some mythical rivalry with Shields is beyond me. I was born closer to Roker Park than a lot of Sunderland people, but in South Shields. There is a lot of Sunderland supporters from South Tyneside including Shields. Let's face it, Sunderlands main centre of operations is in South Tyneside.

My dads a Sunderland fan but has also always followed Gateshead as he’s from there. What’s the big deal?
My dad was the same with Sunderland and Shields. He held a season ticket with Sunderland until his death but had been a volunteer worker at Shields Newcastle Road ground.
I have been a season ticket holder 32 yrs and went to my first game in 1972,however I played for the under 16s Shields team in the late 70s. I used to watch them when Sunderland weren't at home playing in the Vaux Wearside league against Sunderland reserves.

I can't see why this is a big deal to be honest, maybe because it ain't, none league football club has local people extending games shocker for various reasons :lol::lol:

Most of those attending Shields matches will be either Sunderland or Newcastle fans and within the town I reckon they would be roughly an even split in loyalties between the two big clubs. Most of those attending Shields matches will not have stopped going to St James or SOL because they were not regular attenders in the first place. When Shields are at home the same day as Sunderland or Newcastle there is not a significant difference in attendances. Same applies to Gateshead. I reckon between 100 and 200 Shields fans will have season tickets elsewhere. Non leauge soccer is becoming attractive. Few disenchanted ex Premier League followers are watching it. Social media, better facilities and the modern trend in people wanting to be a part of something communal are driving up attendances. And as a final point South Shields is a big town with a tradition of big crowds when they have a successful side

All crowds were low in the 80's compared to now, man u were getting crowds in the 20 and 30 thousands for example. Not sure what that's got to do with football today?

I don't think they've stopped going because they don't care any more, but if you have a family it's expensive to go.
Tickets, transport, grub it all adds up. If there in shields they might be within walking distance of the ground.

I understand that. But the I'm sick of Sunderland being shit etc etc is inexcusable.
