Empire's Top films of the past 30 years

probably the best star wars movie of all......modern take on older times, the 70's kid in me went bezerk.....

that said Deadpool was also brilliant, tough call.
In all honesty I think it is better than return of the jedi.

but the first, empire and rogue one are all ina trio of goodness for me.

I absolutely loved rogue one, it was so much better than force awakens and a million times better than that god awful mess the last jedi.

It felt like a real Star WARs.

It didn't need jedi's or anything else, it made sense, there were no glaring plot holes and it fixed one of the biggest jokes in star wars history about their being a random porthole meaning tiny ship could do a david and goliath esque knockout on the death star.

Fantastic from start to finish.

The thread title says 'Top films of the past 30 years'.
I looked at it as a your favourite of the top 5 films that year.

So Die Hard 3 is my fave die hard. I love 1 and 2 is canny but I have a real appreciation for the 3rd one, I didn't put that cos I knew its not one of the best that year.

agree, there was no flash to it.....no daft disney shite......the production was spot on, script......it just felt old skool.....The big man making an appearance was tops....fuck it, I'm watching it tonight.....will make a change from Ready player which I've now watched 6 times and still spot new details!

1989 - Do The Right Thing
1990 - Goodfellas
1991 - Terminator 2
1992 - Reservoir Dogs

Canny list as I would expect but Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

But Chewbacca was only involved in the battle of Kashyyk in the prequels wasn't he.

He didn't know about luke and leia and that? iirc.

Rogue one, wish I'd included it meself but deadpool was so good.

Best star wars movie for a long long time.

Overstating slightly for comic effect but Yoda refers to him by name in the film and it was all around the time Order 66 was given out to kill the Jedis, with confirmation that Anakin Skywalker had turned to the Dark Side. There were definitely some conversations in Eps 4, 5 and 6 that would have gone better if Chewie had said something

Aye it was made by a separate team to the new trilogy which helped imo.

Loads of little winks and nods to the originals

And aye I mean the best Darth Vader scene of them all.... no question.

Empire 30: Vote For Your Favourite Films Of The Last 30 Years

Pick your favourite film for each year. By all means put them in here too so we can all belittle your choices or praise you for being a film aficionado.

Don't feel like you have to put them all in but if you can nail down one per year you've don well.
So far I'm on...

1989 - Batman
1990 - Home Alone
1991 - The Silence of the Lambs
1992 - Batman Returns
1993 - Jurassic Park
1994 - The Lion King (tough year to pick from)
1995 - Seven (tough year to pick from)
1996 - Scream (tough year to pick from) - Purely for Wes Craven creating the "Teen Slasher" genre
1997 - LA Confidential - I couldn't vote for Titanic
1998 - Saving Private Ryan
1999 - The Matrix - Still an incredible film. I refuse to believe there are sequels.
2000 - Gladiator - Predictable shout, but still a great film.
2001 - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002 - 28 Days Later
2003 - Monster - It would be easy to pick Kill Bill Pt 1
2004 - SAW - I wouldn't usually pick a horror film, but the twist in SAW was very well done. It's just a shame they've ruined it by doing a ton more
2005 - Batman Begins
2006 - V for Vendetta (UK release 2006)
2007 - Stardust - Neil Gaiman does quality work. I thought No Country for Old Men was good, but I enjoyed that more.
2008 - The Dark Knight
2009 - Zombieland
2010 - The King's Speech
2011 - Captain America: The First Avenger
2012 - The Avengers
2013 - 12 Years A Slave (tough year to pick from)
2014 - The LEGO Movie (really tough year to pick from) - I make absolutely no apologies for this.
2015 - The Hateful Eight
2016 - Deadpool
2017 - Thor Ragnarok
2018 - Avengers: Infinity War
2019 - Joker - I have a good feeling about it. Not easy to pick as it's only July but there's my shouts!
Are only Hollywood fillums allowed?

Not at all. British, Bollywood. Whatever. It's your shout. Four Weddings and a Funeral was one of the highest grossing films in its year. I'd say that's certainly British over Hollywood
Just read the whole thread - think there's only been one non-English language film mentioned on the whole thread.

Quite revealing, no?

I've never considered that much of a plot hole at all really. I never even considered it one 'til people started saying Rogue One fixed it.
