Durham Big Meeting

A house came with the job , what's your problem?

Portfolio of properties, suggesting more than one, could of been two, but haters like you want to believe its dozens, which it certainly wasn't. Personally the bloke stood up for his members, his own people, putting thousands of pounds into peoples pockets, so I don't have a problem with him earning a decent wage and owning a house or three.

No it doesn't, that's what you choose to believe. Dictionary definition of portfolio..."a collection of investments that are owned by a particular person or organization"

Doesn't matter, those were the rules of the association, voted on democratically by the NUM/DMA committee. Don't know who owns it now, don't really care , got more important things to worry about.

The anti-miners brigade prefer something that has increasingly fewer rules: rampant capitalism.

They think that if they sniff the system's arse they will get rich by proxy.

No doubt if the actual members of the organisation had been asked...."Do you wish to give Mr Hopper a free house ?", they would have said yes, but make sure it's worth about £350,000 if you can.

You are really full of hate towards the miners and NUM, aren't you? I knew David Hopper well and he never stopped fighting for the miners and their community.

He was elected democratically by his marras at Monkwearmouth because he was a good pitman.

Miners only elect men they consider good workers, men who inspire their confidence.

Reductio ad absurdum.

Which lodge of the DMA did you belong to? None, I suspect.

Do you even belong to a trade union?

My mam still tells the story of walking up Claypath to the (former East Durham) train station in the baking sun, eight and a half months pregnant with me, no help from my dad who was playing in Murton band.

So technically I've been going since I was minus two weeks.

Are you any of these as a consequence:
* militant trade unionist
* in a band
*mountain climber
*paramedic/midwife

It's used to differentiate the answer from the message it's answering. So, why should I stop?
its just a bit hard to read and hurts my eyes a bit as my lenses adjust to standard text on here anything in CAPS or bold adjusts my lenses marra.

Erm...

Not a militant trade unionist, but always a member and advocate.

Also played for Murton band, but not any more. Love music like.

Like climbing mountains, a lot.

Not connected to the medical profession

Does that help :D

Loved it in the 80’s when it actually meant something to the people and to celebrate our mining heritage.

Now its just an excuse for a piss up for the scrotes from the pit villages

Blimey, I don't think I can contribute to all the bickering on here.
I do however have a distinct memory of sitting on me dad's shoulders outside The Half Moon watching the bands go past. I think it must have been 1957 or 58.

Been hijacked by students on the piss. It’s awful.
Has it fuck, you never see any students out for the big meeting

Every year. I'm one of the anyone and everyone on the piss
Steady 8-10 pints for me, then the 20 bus back to town about 4pm, f***ing class. Meet my old Marras every year, all MLF, topper.

I assume you never go then? Each banner has 20-30 charvers drinking Fosters from the big pit villages, the other 150,00 are former pit men, tourists, and County Durham folk not embarrassed by their roots

Here's a serious offer to you.

I cannot, unfortunately, go to the DMG this year for family reasons (only the second I have missed) but I will go next year.

If you agree, I will meet you and take you to meet Ian personally so that you can confront him directly and face-to-face with your libelous accusations.

To accuse a public figure of theft is a serious libel and I think the Mods ought to help you as you clearly can't stop yourself.

So it appears.

You certainly like a broad brush approach.

Have you informed any of these "50% drunken pit village morons" that they are as you describe?
Yes.
