Seriously hoping north east news are in that f***ing shark bar at 12am tonight when his contract expires.

Bar in darkness, apart from a few candles. A bit wailing from in the corner and people just silently get up and start leaving. Then Simon O’Rourke turns to the camera and says ‘we’ll thats it, the Rafa reign is over’

Just choked up at the thought of it. Hoping there'll be a DVD of this special so SAFC fans can observe a minutes silence.

.
Didn't Peter Reid allegedly have something similar going on with his agent, during his time at Sunderland ?
Or am I thinking of another incident, involving another manager, at another club ?
Happy to be corrected if Ì'm wrong.
I'd be quite surprised if he didn't. Same with Allardyce.

I said on here a few months back that there was no logic in Ashley spending north of £100m just in an attempt to get us up to 7th with its £10m extra prize money over finishing 10th-13th. Benitez put weakened teams out in the cups when there was no need to, in my opinion just to make a statement to Ashley. God knows where we go from here, but if we appoint a mediocre no mark as manager who still gets us 13th next season then all the Rafa supporters are going to look very stupid....

I said it a few days ago, what happens if you get a half decent manager in who spends the money, builds on the defence and works as hard on goalscoring as defending, changes the "they're not good enough narrative" of Benitez and lifts the players and the fans a bit and he does as well or a place or two better?

It's not beyond the realms of possibly.

They look stupid regardless

Has benitez not turned up to this shindig I thought he loved tha toon

I bet he’s secretly breathing a sigh of relief. I think all this love the fans etc was just lip service. They idolised him so much he felt obliged to stay. Kind of the same scenario as Advocaat and the flowers.

Don't worry. It would be extremely difficult to look more stupid.

I never understood the mags who thought that whenever Rafa did something negative (such as field weakened teams in cups) that he was trying to prove a point to Mike Ashley.

In the history of football has any manager ever deliberately sabotaged his own statistics and career prospects to "prove a point to the boss".

I hope you's get 12th with no investment, so the Rafa bumming can fuck off

Fuck that.

Let's them go down. Everyone's spending big in championship now. There tactics over outspending everyone at that level won't work this time.

Let's see how the Geordie faithful fare when they know they aren't guaranteed promotion straight back up.
