'The biggest losers will be the long-suffering fans of Newcastle'

Newcastle United's supporters will feel devastated and betrayed once more after confirmation that Rafael Benitez is leaving St James' Park.

The gap between Benitez's demands on control, budget, transfer strategy and infrastructure and owner Mike Ashley's strict policy on the running of the club simply could not be bridged, as seemed increasingly obvious in the final weeks of the season.

In many respects this is a battle no-one wins.

Benitez will currently struggle to find a club that fits his stature as a Champions League winner with Liverpool, a Europa League winner with Chelsea and a manager treated as the saviour of Newcastle United by supporters who revered the Spaniard.

He has a lucrative offer on the table from Chinese Super League Club Dalian Yifang - but is this really what he has in mind at this stage of his career?

Ashley will not win as it seems impossible he will find a successor who comes anywhere near Benitez's success, experience and expertise - although this may not concern him as his sole victory is seemingly keeping Newcastle United in the Premier League until the club can be sold.

And, once again, the biggest losers will be the long-suffering fans of Newcastle United as they lose a manager they loved and see their club plunged into crisis once more.

Bloody hell there are only about 4 clubs who will win anything therefore the other 88 clubs are just as long suffering
claptrap. Playing right up to their delusion

Am I the only one that isn't laughing?

I didn't rate him and my concern is they may get a decent manager now

He was doing a decent job, surprised he stayed but always felt he was playing them (fans) for fools by sticking around doing the 'woe is me' act in a no-lose situation. When you look at some of his signings (Almiron etc) you do think he's a bit of a weird manager, but I'd be surprised if they could get a manager who will be better than him. If they bring in failures like Hughes etc then they will get what they deserve.

Two journalists who've been on Talk Sport, Courtney and Edwards said he wanted control of transfer dealings and more than the £60 million available, to spend.

Big Mike said no.
£60m buys you next to nothing now.

Almiron could go (not necessarily to Real) tbf like. Benitez may have been part of the pull to the mags. My prediction is that if there's no takeover or big name manager comes in, he'll be off to West Ham for a bit more than they paid for him. Although if Man U get desperate he could head there
Anot sure we need any more attacking midfielders

Lanzini, Fornals, Anderson, Yarmolenko, Wilshire, Antonio etc etc

German managers seem to be the fad presently
