‘High likelihood of human civilisation coming to end’ by 2050

There's a 1000 years worth of oxygen in the atmosphere even if every single plant or tree died and there was nothing to photosynthesise.

Well the elites of this global economic system will be pleased.

Would it not be easier and cheaper just to accept that chasing the dream of ever expanding econonic growth is what's causing the problem and find a different way to structure society.

Good luck with that. People don't even want to fund achieving zero emissions in this country with either higher taxes, increased borrowing or cuts to services.

No, I appreciate that the consume at all costs genie is well and truly out of the bottle and people won't give up their lifestyles and trinkets easily.

It will only get worse as the people of China, India and Africa start catching up with that culture.

I don't understand it but I'm obviously in a tiny minority on that.

The thing is China may already be ahead in the game. They've been building smart hi-tech cities that no-one can afford to live in for some time.

Their construction industry has been driving the global economy for years.

Gutted that I was born too early to have a gang of gonk suit wearing bandits roaming the roads of New Sunderland with is tbh

To be completely honest I think we've completely jumped the shark as a civilization, our governments seem incapable of taking responsibilities upon themselves and if you ask people whether they should be taxed more to help the save the world the vast majority will reply "well I'll be dead by then so I don't care"

We're ridiculously selfish as a race

Fascism is the solution.

But seriously though imagine a legitimate meritocracy, say a Minister for Health elected by qualified health experts etc.

Democracy has became that embedded in society where people have begun to think it's integral to life, but it's actually backwards that we elect 'politicians' to MP posts etc, the clue is in the name, they exist to thrive in politics, of course they're going to do whatever it takes to keep themselves afloat and if that means not attacking climate change head on, they'll not bother

That was Mosley’s view too. A small cabinet of experts.

At around 16m.

Agreed 100%.

I'd have much more confidence in a system like that than I do in the current system.

Fascism as an idea anyone can get behind has been completely fucked by Hitler tbh and will always be associated with the horrors of WW2 and the holocaust, although Mosley came out with some shite (like all politicians), I'd agree he's right with that point
Without resorting to point scoring, but communism has created far more victims unfortunately.

I knew we were in bother but looks like I'd wrongly assumed we were, as per natures cycle, heading towards a mini ice age + some minor damage nuclear reactors and the like had thrown in. I might have guessed they'd been meddling with weather manipulation & not addressing issues they knew about years ago. It seems to me we will be basically administrating vaccines to the weather/nature from here on in with god knows what side effects but yes lets blame the plebs and stop them having a a burger and of course make sure we tax the hell out of them.

To be honest regarding Britain the future is variable. We receive a third of our heat from the Atlantic Gulf Stream originating in the Caribbean and if that shuts down then we will enter a severe ice age in Britain even if overall the global average temperature continues to rise.

Also after 9/11 all aircraft flights were banned for a while over the USA. Temperature recordings made during that period indicated that the entire temperature range itself rose by 2 degrees. This indicates that pollution from aeroplanes was initiating cloud cover that was having a temporary global dimming effect of 2 degrees. They are trying to limit the rise to 2 degrees globally but if we take away man influenced cloud cover then we have already reached that limit but it is being masked by the effects of air traffic despite the significant effect such air traffic has on raising CO2 levels.

It probably is, it's just about finding the right dictator to do it, fascism isn't necessarily a bad thing if the leader/cabinet are all knowledgeable

I's like to nominate Stephen Hawking III.

I couldn't think of anything worse. I've lost faith in humanity like so I'm biased.

It's okay man, everything's solved, we're picking up the plastic and (I think) we've increased the fines for littering.
