Charlie Methven on metro radio

I'm summising Methven had put less into the club than one season ticket holder this season. In return he may have got 6% of the club basically for free and potentially expenses, fees and a club salary.

To paraphrase fans are to blame and should be grateful that Batman and Robberin are in charge standing to make millions.

He’s definitely touched a nerve mind. I think the noise our fans make varies massively. Sometimes it’s like a f***ing graveyard. I regularly state that anyone who says the crowd doesn’t make a difference only has to remember the Chelsea game where we came back twice and then won it. The crowd carried that team in those final few games.

Never ending circle of ‘the players have to give us something before we can support them’ and ‘the players need something to get them going’.

I just hope people remember this

The players get paid to give us something. We give them money to get them going.

They'll forget it as soon as he says something controversial about one of our rivals.
I don't think they will judging by some of the comments...ironically he's scored a massive own goal in many peoples minds..

He can point at the 34k supporters and say they were quiet but let's be brutally honest, entertaining football is somewhat of a scarcity at safc for years. It has been dull since Roy Keane was manager. Charlie methven has only been here a year. He doesn't understand how much Sunderland's long suffering fans have experienced. We've easily witnessed the worst football in the north east....much more than the mags and boro have.
When jack Ross plays three holding midfielders without attacking threat ......in the playoff final, it's understandable when the team don't score a goal for themselves nor do fans get excited.

The roar when Mcgeady came on certainly wasn't louder than the roar when we scored. We did cheer when Mcgeady came on (and minutes before when he came out to warm up), mainly because the 35k fans in crowd didnt trust any of the players on the pitch to get us out the shit like he has the ability to. That speak volumes about peoples 'expectations' this season, and substantiates exactly why the fans shouldnt be grouped in with the players or the manager.

We've broke the league record for average attendances, we've broke the league record for a si gke attendance, we've took about 8k away to Blackpool, we've boosted opposition attendances that much nearly every side in the leagues highest home attendance is v us, we bought other more disadvantaged fans tickets when asked, we've travelled 1200 miles to Wembley and when it's came down to it I've sacked off going abroad with the kids on holiday and changed it to a cheaper one in UK to attend the last two.

In return this side has totally bottled auto promotion when in the driving seat with a handful of games to go, and bottled the game on Sunday and while we are hurting the most that pompous twat has turned a question that wasn't even about us into a dig at us just hours after the whistle and used us as an excuse for the failure of what's gone on on the pitch.

A day after he tells us to 'get real' after he's given it the biggun all season he's now saying we will get 100 points next season. Couldn't make it up.
Spot on ^

He paid less than £350 for 6% of the club now?

Am I reading this correctly; he presided over two Wembley failures then shows his appreciation for the fans who travelled all that way by saying the likes of sodding Charlton are as big as you?

He comes across as a right clinger-onner. Happy to ride on the back of SD's money and enjoy the adulation but contribute very little to the actual club.

How could a Tory middle class posh bloke think he will ever come across well among working-class Northern football fans?

The honeymoon period has brutally ended for the ownership team mind.

Crowds yes.
History is fast becoming ancient history now mind.
1 trophy since the war and even that was a giant killing act as oppose to a big club adding to their tally.
Is our profile that big?
I reckon Charlton will have had any many top half Prem league finishes as us in last 60 year.

I would say we would probably be classed as bigger but not significantly.

I admire your modesty but you're a miles bigger club than Charlton.

In terms of profile, you've been runners-up in an F.A. Cup and a League Cup final since the war as well don't forget.

Have Charlton even been as far as a semi-final in either of those competitions recently?

Have you listened to the interview? His comment about the fans (albeit stupid) was in response to the interviewer asking about the size of club in league 1. He then went on to say the players didn't perform, the overall performance was poor and that the management have to take responsibility, including himself.
