Charlie Methven on metro radio

Methven is deflecting the issue from the real culprits.

Charlton got promoted because over the season they were the better team and the better team on the day. They have a better manager, better players and recruited better. Charlton are a basket case off the pitch. What Bowyer has managed to is remarkable.

Fair play to their fans. They had some tough times. They turned up in their numbers and sang their hearts out. But that isn't the reason they went up. The Charlton fans know it, we know it and Methven knows it. Charlton bettered us in every department this season despite having a shit load of problems. We didn't go up because the manager Donald and Methven picked wasn't good enough and tactically naïve. The scouts and recruitment team the picked were awful. The players we signed were expensive flops. But he won't blame himself, it's the fans fault!

He can deflect all he wants, or say taken out of context, he will not get missing supporters, who maybe could not afford to travel or get time away for whatever reason for the playoff despite attending as much as they can.

Some of the player's during the season for whatever reason looked like they were playing with a wrong shaped ball. The fans definately
upped their support and commitment and yes at times were quiet.

But some of the football at times was dire, play football as was done up in Scotland by other teams JR was recruited for. He has had his learning season as have the team.

Hopefully lessons have been taken aboard, get our ins and outs right the next couple of windows early in the transfer windows and come out in form, no injuries and play a way to get the supporters singing.

Not hard, kill off teams and play like you mean it, try playing in a style that works for us, others managed it consistently. Will we?

So what did Charlie actually say? I fail to believe he questioned the support I think he'a a bit more intelligent than that.

The interviewer said something along the lines of for a club of our size we need to be out of league 1.

Methven then interrupted before a question could be properly asked and said supporters need to get real. Charlton had 40k to our 34k and were louder than us.

Not sure at all why he took it down that road but he did.

He didn't actually question it, his question from the reporter was regarding the sizeuf us and the size of Charlton as a club and who needed promotion more, he then answered it with comparing the fact that Charlton are an ex premier league club and the had 40000 there and we only had 36000 which he was right to do, it was in answer to a question, he did say that our fans were quiet and there's weren't which again was absolutely correct everyone said so coming out the ground but as soon as one of the owners say the same thing it then gets blown up

No. The interviewer never mentioned the size of Charlton. Methven did that himself

Even if he didn't start and Ross had a plan the 1-0 score and the 10 minute injury should have been the perfect option to bring McGeady on yet there we were at 1-1 with 15-20 minutes to go.

100 percent should have started. Don't even
Aye well this "Mag" was one of those who travelled all the way to Portsmouth on a Thursday to support our team to Wembley. Maybe there needs to be a few more of us "Mags"

You have a thing about mags you like
Sort ya head out

He's starting to come across a right bellend.

The fans need to be realistic because we say a club Sunderland's size shouldn't be in league 1? Him and Stewart have been saying that all season.
starting ???? he does realise Sunderland is not a wealthy city and in total over 70,000 fans travelled down in the space of a couple of months ??

The love has worn off both ways ! Once you have a dig at fans as loyal as Sunderland considering what they've been through its a slippery slide. Ross and the board seem to be saying it's nothing to do with them or the players but to have any kind of negative view about our fans compared to Charlton (two thirds of whom probably hadn't been to one game all season) is bang out of order

It's like a feuding redneck family. At each others' throats until someone outside the family says something - then it's all "What did he say about our Darlene?" ;)

So we’re getting stuck into the bloke for saying the same as countless threads on here that our Wembley turnout was a bit poor by our standards and also that our fans were quiet and our songbook is a bit old hat and doesn’t really create much of a knees up. Literally loads of posts saying exactly this

Don’t agree Charlton are as big as us like by any stretch!
