Moving back to Durham - City or surroundings villages?

My Dad was saying how the traffic is bad now coming in from the Stonebridge way - how long does it take and where does it back up from?

If I'm later than 7.45 heading through I just bail down browney lane, go left at honest lawyer roundabout and go into Durham that way. Knocks quite a bit off

I'm exiled away but love Weardale too. You could try Philadelphia, Success, Shiney Row, Easington Lane, Bog Row, Dubmire, Quebec, Toronto, Close House, Page Bank, Browney, New Brancepeth and Ushaw Moor ,Esh Winning,
if you are moving from down south, i.e. York and all points south you'll be able to buy a street. Good luck.
Philadelphia/ success road area is mainly new or newish estates now. You'd have to be fairly minted to buy a whole street round there now!

I lived in Durham City for 10 years till last Christmas. Really enjoyed it at first but it is very very studenty now and I found it becoming more and more impersonable. Still a great City mind. Moved to Sedgefield I am really enjoying village life a lot more.

There is also a place called "No Place"

Not a bad place Sedgefield, shame about the sorrounding areas like

Good choice.

Wellfield, Castle Eden, High Hesleden, Hutton Henry, 15 min drive to Durham, next to A19, pubs, cycle 5 mins drive to the coast , under the radar therefore better value for money

Sedgefield is canny. A bit quiet for a youngster like me but I do like living here.

What's great lumley like as an area? BIL is looking at a house there. Seemed like a nice enough village when I used to play footy over there but know nothing about it.
Parents built there own gaff in great lumley. Pretty quiet village and if your at the right end good views over the farmers fields out to Durham. Can see the cathedral on a clear day from my mams house.

Depends on budget really.

Durham City itself is practically student only unless you look at Potters Bank or similar, where you'd need a canny budget.

Not so, there’s plenty of good houses in Durham City. I’m in Gilesgate and lots available for between £100-200k.

It seems like every 4 or 5 months they dig the road up to do gas works around there which causes traffic problems.

I lived in Willington for over 30 years and didn't have any bother apart from when we got a total arsehole move in next door which to be fair could happen anywhere. It is what it is to be fair, not the worst place to live but not a great deal to do if you have kids which is why we moved. Parkside was always a good school when I was there.

Plus this, I was getting sick of the commute into Durham taking forever because of traffic getting backed up into as far as meadowfield some mornings. I can now get to Darlington quicker from Chester than I did willington to Durham.

The edge of Chester le Street. South side. Peace and quiet with a mini metropolis just down the road.

You can get anything down there. Ok fair enough some have been closed for what some tell me were ‘happy endings’ whatever that is. It sounds innocent to me but against the law or something.
