...and we are in the championship next year is the feeling that we would happily build for two or three years there?

For me the premiership is a pile of wank. Plastic fans, disconnected multi millionaire players and a handful of clubs controlling it and getting richer and richer. I’ve realized this after a humbling but very enjoyable year in L1

I would like to see a return to pre premier/sky days in order to save football. And to my mind there is s simple way to do this. Bring in a capped maximum wage for all new contracts. Let’s say around 10k a week. Much of the “talent” would fuck off abroad for more money. There would be no need for young players to travel to other clubs in UK to earn more so you would have local lads playing for local teams more than now. Plenty of youngsters would still want to play top level football in England for £500k a year. It would take a few years to even out but I think it would do the trick.

Can never see it happening to be honest as money runs football now. Which is why I wouldnt mind being in the championship for a while.

It will all come down to investment and what those plans are. Unless we can spend 20m, then challenging the top 6 isn't realistic. More likely, I would want to see steady growth from midtable, challenge top 6, then a real go. That's progression over 3 seasons. End of the day money talks and depends what happens with that.

Sunday will be very tough though.

Financially, the PL is the only place to be but I agree with your comments re plastic fans etc
The owners was PL so they can sell for a profit, and to be honest IF we can structure it right and do what Watford, Southampton and Bournemouth have done (albeit Soutampton have struggled a bit recently) then I wouldn't be against a return to the PL. I don't want to get back up there just to be battling for 4th bottom

Returming to your origina question, I would happily build over the next 4-5 years before going back up. When we are competitive, the Championship is a very enjoyable league

I totally agree with the IF. It will be a tough game. But is the premier league the be all and end all. Not for me. Can ram it.....

Which is why it would never happen as destroys the PL 'franchise' and TV income.

A better way would be to split the PL income equal ways and encourage the teams to do business on top of that. Would go someway to giving everyone an equal chance while still being able to attract the top players to England.

Not sure that's true at all. Sheffield United have just gone up and spent nothing really. Not saying we'll go up, but it's not true you need to throw stacks of cash at it.

I’d take surviving relegation in the first season if we somehow went up. Think it’s going to take a long time to build a decent squad.

They ran home with the league when they finally went up. We’ll be going up having looked incredibly unimpressive all season and scraping through the play offs

£20 million, top six, £200 million more like and then some. As a sport and a competition the game has been dead for years.

Only way a capped wage would work is if it was mandatory across the globe. Then you’d have to get rid of ‘endorsements’ too as that’d be used as a loophole.

Well the missing 10k fans will need us to get straight back to the PL for them to come back. Given where we are now I would be more than happy for a comfortable mid table finish winning more at home and some decent away trips to Leeds Sheffield and Nottingham

Something has to happen and I can’t see what is going to stop the “growth” which is killing football.

A max wage cap doesn’t have to be worldwide. Yes, top players would go abroad etc but it’s not like the ones left behind on 10k a week would be pub players. There would still be more even competition. Then if sky fucked off and the players wages would be covered by gate receipts and club sponsorship. Simplistic maybe but better than what we have now.

They've still not spent much money. Probably the same amount in the Championship as what we've just done in League 1.

My point was that hoying cash at it isn't the only way up. Not saying we're comparable to Sheff U.

There will always be a way around wage caps. Goal/asist/clean sheet bonus
Christmas bonus
Signing bonus
Re-sign bonus

Even if teams were paying 10k per week for players they would just have an extra 100 million a year to spend on transfer fees leaving smaller teams behind.

The only way to get rid of money is to stop watching football on sky/bt which isn't going to happen.

I don’t really care what league we’re in. If we spend our way out of the champ it will just limit the spending we can do at pl level - and ultimately ensure our demise and ultimate relegation is earlier. Until we start doing the right things as a club - scalable activity that maximises every single penny we spend - we aren’t in a position to truly establish ourselves in the pl. if we’ve got investment coming over the next year or so, we should be spending it on that.

How much have Sheff Utd spent?

we have para money of £16m like...so even without investmentb i wouldnt have thought £20m was a problem...£20m can get you fuck all in the chapo or it can pay or promotion-if you're smart..
