Why don’t the 14 clubs in the top flight...

They won't though.

Because when the big boys aren't guaranteed a trophy every season, they'll take their ball home again.

They got it cushy right were they are.

Trophies on tap and the lions share of the income.

Liverpool were once a Second Division team. Leeds were once one of the top six teams in the land.

Football goes in cycles but that creates too much uncertainty for the money men.

So they've built themselves an impregnable fortress and pulled up the drawbridge.

The rest of us are paddling around the moat in a leaky boat trying to figure a way in.

Liverpool haven't finished lower than 8th in about 50 years though tbf.

You might get your wish with calls for a Super League gaining traction .... I don’t think it’ll occur though.
I hope it does. I hope the self styled "big 6" fuck off and play PSG, Milan, Juve, Barca etc every week and let the real football fans enjoy real football and not over hyped soap operas

It will never happen because someone will have to finish bottom and none of them will like that prospect

Agree with this. Up to everybody else to catch up. Raise the standards.
If a team is good, be better than them. That's how you win.
Same goes for any sport. To be the best you've got to beat the best.
There's always a way.
Greece won the euros and Valencia won two spanish leagues playing 1 up front and a double 6. Then everybody done it. So teams countered that by ditching 4 4 2, and so it goes.

Meanwhile back in the real world.

Ajax will probably lose most of the team that did so well this season to richer clubs.

When you beat the competition, the competition just buys you.

Liverpool haven't finished lower than 8th in about 50 years though tbf.

That's because they were able to build a club capable of doing so over a period of time on a fairly level playing field.

These days they'd need to be backed by wealth greater than the GDP of some countries to force their way in.

Let them crack on. Personally I think genuine fans would hate it after two seasons. Armchair fans bored after ten.

I could be wrong. But let them get on with it.

I bet they wouldn't dare do it really, especially of FIFA refuse to let players enter a world cup which they should do.
I've said many times that I'd take the risk. You're correct fans would hate it, imagine one of the elite clubs going decades without a trophy. They couldn't take it.

were man utd a big clubs in the 80s? they were certainly quite big-but no one would have had them as first choice to move to/...

they can spend-but they cant keep lsoing moeny while all round them make money-it narrows the gap a bit every year if it continues..
Utd were/are the biggest club in England in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and now in the Tweenies. They may not have been the most successful on occasions but they still got the biggest crowds and brought in the most money. They’ll have to be a lot worse than they are now for a long long time for that to change.

I haven't looked at a single one of your graphs yet marra - I couldn't really give a fuck. The same clubs have been topping these tables for donkey years.?

Mebbes you shoul£ because he’s proving you wrong.

Who honestly wants the big teams to leave?
Just so you might win the premier league tipping watford to the title. With Everton in 3rd closely followed by Crystal Palace...thrilling eh!
Wouldn't be my first choice. That would be for UEFA and the FA to distribute monies more fairly.

Its the other teams choice if they dont like that and leave

Lets be honest nobody is going to pay for skysports to watch shite like newcastle and bournemouth slug it out are they
And?

I see Man City are considering a move for Harry Maguire, so there’s one of the few teams outside the top six who look capable of possibly challenging them about to lose one of their best players.

And the cycle continues.
They’ll buy Clark from pompey to replace him.

Liverpool haven't finished lower than 8th in about 50 years though tbf.
Aye because as soon as they rose to the top they started campaigning to be allowed to keep all of their gate money because Forest had just come from nowhere and won one title and two European cups...........guess who joined their campaign? Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton.

And?
The FA don’t have any money to distribute which is why they’re still wantin* to sell off Wembley.

Fair point riff. Not sure of the exact politics of who has the power to do what. FIFA and UEFA should impose a rule for every domestic league

1984/85
1.st Everton
2nd Liverpool
3rd Spurs
4th Man United
5th Southampton
6th Chelsea
7th Arsenal
And your point is?

How many times do you think the big 6 have been out of the top 6 this season from the very first game?
Someone on Reddit made a canny video. You can see after 25 seconds after 7 games the top 5 are already there. It's just Man Utd missing but they were never that far behind and after 1 minute they finally get into 6th. After that the big 6 just pull away from the rest of the also rans!

This has happened the last 3 seasons now and next season will probably be the same

This is where I saw the video

How the Premier League changed throughout the 2018/19 season : soccer

Yes, agreed. If it was the extra European money that differentiated, then it would now be a top 7 after Leicester and their run to the quarter finals.
It's being astute commercial operators as well as being consistently good on the pitch that sets them apart.

The overseas tv deal for the PL is worth as much as the domestic (BT and Sky) deal.
The fact that you'd have the likes of Barca and Real Madrid from Spain, and Juventus, Bayern etc all playing each other week to week would make this league bigger than the PL globally.

Nobody in Indonesia is buying a premier league subscription to see Burnley vs Crystal Palace.
The big 6 are the global brands that people are interested in.
How many and which teams do you think will qualify for this Euro League?

People moaning about the top 6 and about City breaking FFP

FFP is set up to protect the elite - the only way to break into it is to have a city type of ownership

And those wanting the top 6 to leave - it would be a disaster for English football and the whole if European football - all money would disappear overnight. Clubs would struggle to balance books at all levels & it would collapse
Rubbish. Clubs existed before sky money and would do so again

Yeah but they were living within their means then - now they would have to massively restructure themselves financially. Some would have huge payments still to be made fir stadiums, training facilities & transfers but the income stream won’t be there anymore.

Any examples of these massive repayments for infrastructure? Outside of the teams that are going to leave if this super League ever happens?

The biggest expense by far is wages, so just offer less in wages.

Edit- I know I seem blasé, I know it would be difficult to restructure at first but it would not be impossible

Givower man. Naaah. Access to the other five places is now virtually non existent since ffp and the constant easy money of european football which is what the fellers getting at.

How many and which teams do you think will qualify for this Euro League?
It won’t be a conventional round robin type league that’s for sure. Not enuff pizazz involved in a normal league H&A structure.

That's right. 1985, I think, the first steps towards Premier League. Spurs, ManU and Arsenal were at the forefront of that, with tacit support from Liverpool and Everton.

There can only be one champion though, which means 19'or so mega teams are gonna end up with nowt. They'll get bored after a while.
