Cheap Holidays

If you want a cheap stay in one of the most expensive and beautiful cities in the world, go to Venice. The trick is to fly to Padua, stay in a cheep hotel of bnb there and get the train in every day. It's dirt cheap and you get the best of both worlds.

Same goes with Florence and Pisa. But in Tuscany you can stay within 30 mins if the city in the Tuscan countryside in an agriturismo (working farm/ hotel) for next to nothing. They are usually vinyards. The one I was married in had wine at one euro a glass and grappa at a similar price.

All the bar workers and waiters are currently being screwed , earning about 300 EU a month net. Tip them well

Looking for a cheap week away in September, somewhere warm, pretty well priced and with enough bars/restaurants without it being too lively.

Any SMB'ers willing to recommend destinations and places to book?

Cheers.

Cabanas, AlGarve Portugal. Went last year and looking to go again (something I wouldn't normally consider)

Return flights to palma are 120quid in factory fortnight, get an air bnb and you'll get a week away for the 2 of you for less than 600quid

I am away for the first week from Saturday 20 July to Saturday 27 July but from the Sunday 29 July to Saturday 3 August I am ok. The 4th is the last day but I start back on night shift so I am going to need to be back by the 3rd.

But I would love to know where did you saw that kind of stuff?

Great. I will check it out.

Don't we have websites where you can sort of shop for holidays? I see it all the time advertised on telly. Is it better to go on the plane companies website then?

If you want to take a bit of effort out of it & go down the package holiday route, Jet2 are reasonably priced.

Btw Ryanair looks cheap then theyll try & rip you off at every opportunity.

What's a package holiday?

Jet2 is exactly the sort of thing I was on about. They don't fly planes as well as offer holidays. They just offer holidays.

Just booked up a week in Benalmadena with the wife and kid all inclusive for £1400 as we got a free child seat via TUI.

But what is a package holiday or package deal?

I am not familiar with it. I used to watch "Wish You Were Here" and "Holiday" years ago and watch documentaries like "Airline" but other than that I have no experience or knowledge of foreign holidays.

to be honest, if you've never been abroad, then I think it is better you go down to one of the travel agents and speak to one of the girls. you will have to have a rough idea of what country you want to visit or what type of holiday you want.
if there are two going, both of you go down.
do you want the weather to be hot or not so hot. beach / pool or tourist attractions.
do you want to go self catering, b&b, half board or all inclusive
self catering allows you the freedom to choose when you eat and to go out for an evening meal to the resort / village where you are staying
all inclusive, has meals and probably local drinks supplied. that means your budget is not affected by meals out but does tie you in to where you eat.
depends on how fussy you are about food (we for example, will not eat from a buffet)
if you can, pay for your holiday or part of your holiday (I think it is over £100) by credit card and that gives you a level of insurance if it goes t**s up.
Make sure you buy travel insurance (or check to see if you already have it, included in bank accounts or works group accident policy if you have one).
Once you have done one trip, you will then have more confidence about what its about.

We have booked by jet2 this year for a package holiday (covered by ATOL protection | UK Civil Aviation Authority). That gives me flight, transfer to and from hotel, and hotel.

If I was to book the flight only, not covered by atol.

give serious consideration to your destination. I am bias towards the Greek Islands but Turkey is popular as is Cyprus. Croatia is up and coming tourist destination and hear nice things about it

Is that all? What if I want something to eat on the plane is the price of the sandwiches on a plane (I don't know if planes offer sarnies) included in the package deal? And what if I wanted to get a taxi to the hotel. Is that included too?

go to boots at the airport for a meal deal for a sandwich, water and a snack. about £3. buy a cup of tea / coffee on plane. Was checking the price of meals on my flight and it was £10 for all day breakfast. so £40 for return for 2 of us. Not for me but it is ok for others. plane food is expensive, but if a short haul (journey) you are not going to be on the plane for more than 4 1/2 hours.

generally the bus, but you can do it by taxi, but it will cost you extra. how much is dependent on how far your resort is from the airport, just like here when you get a taxi.

best just gan to Butlins marra or have a day out at Sunny South Shields. You can simulate a cruise on the boating Lake and the Rocky Mountaineer on the little train that runs round it:D:cool:

Package holidays usually mention whether transfers are included. If you cant manage a 3l4 hour flight without summat to eat best go all Inclusive

Halkidiki.
Mainland Greece, left hand prominontary below Thessaloniki. Dirt cheap in comparison with the islands plus you can pop up to see Salonica match if they’re at home. Gets a bit lively if they’re playing an Athens club mind.

Aegina.
Greek island 16km from Athens. Fly to Athens then get tube to the port then 30 mins on a dolphin or 45 on a ferry. Very handy to pop back ower to Athens for the sites and/or a match featuring one of the umpteen Athens teams. Olympiakos play in rednwhite stripes, just make sure there’s a ferry scheduled to get you back.
Went there for a holiday years ago and enjoyed it there’s a canny temple on the island as well as other archaeological sites and as you say other things in Athens like the marble stadium and the Acropolis

f***ing hell man - you have to buy your bait on the plane. Transfer is usually coach transfer to the hotel - if you want a taxi its extra

You on a windup? What part of "I have never been abroad before" are you having issues with grasping? Never means not once ever. I am familiar with NOTHING. It is a totally new world to me. Give me a chance.

Anyway, it is good to hear the coach will take you from the airport place to the hotel and I don't need a taxi.

Now. I have had a play with Jet2 website to familiarize myself with how such websites work and I am no better off. I have done a hypothetical holiday leaving Newcastle Airport to Rome on July 29 (Fuming-something)

I am concerned. I want to go on July 29 and arrive back on Friay 2 August. It seems I have to pay TWICE. The £133 on the day I leave and the £153 on the day I come back. But yet in the bottom pic it says going out it is significantly more at £264.60 and more coming back at a cost of £304.20. Am I being scammed or something?
