No it was at the Den,no such person as Harry the Dog or Treatment.
It was hairy that day,but we didn't run
I'm talking about the game at Charlton, circa 1978. We got to the ground about 1.30pm and were standing on the big open side. About 1.45pm Harry The Dog, Billy The Wolf, Ginger Rob, or whatever they are called all strode in and it kicked off at the bottom of that huge paddock. We got chased. As I say I was around 16.

The next year there was a full blown pitch invasion by the SAFC fans and Millwall/Spurs et al followed on from the Charlton end. They were building a roof over the open end and the only way out was over the pitch or through their end and as their end was full of all sorts from London the SAFC fans went over the pitch to get out. It was then decided that it would be a good idea to invade their end and a mass battle involving around 1500 people took place. It didnt even make a footnote in the nationals. The Shields Gazette covered it.

Me and my mates ended up fighting with 2 or 3 lads over by the halfway line/tunnel area. The police came on with the dogs and scattered everyone.

Aye but those names were only on the tele, those lads never existed,we went to visit them down Bermondsey long before 78

There was also the game at Burnley when Bolton and Henderson got sent off. It kicked off that day on the terraces. The next edition of the Mirror called the SAFC fans "animals". It was just a few weeks after Celtic had been IIRC in the Anglo Scottish Cup and they wrecked the place. There was a story of a Celtic fan biting a police dog.

No one knew them by any other name than what they had been referred to on Panorama. I wasnt checking birth certificates that day I can assure you of that!

If you remember the Panorama programme was about a year or so after the Charlton game and in advance of our never to be forgotten trip to Millwall in February 79 (or so). We recognised HTD and his mates instantly when we saw them on the TV from the Charlton game.

That 1979 season Millwall took about 50 into the RE and they were put in the middle of it. They were cadging tabs off SAFC fans over the fence. I'm sure one of them has f***ing wellies on!

WHU were also put in the middle of the RE and after the game they refused to move. I got cracking onto a WHU fan a good few years later who was in amongst them and he said that they sat down and refused to budge because they knew they would get a good hiding. We did similar at that Millwall game at The Den and were kept back for an hour or so. We missed the coach back that was parked at Midland Road/Kings X.

I recounted the tale here - On Tour With The Lads: Millwall 1979 – Ryehill Football

Only went to the Den to watch Safc when we sneaked a 1-1 draw under caretaker Bob Stokoe in April 87. Gordon Armstrong equalised.
Got coach all way so didn't experience any bother in what was a, dead game for them explaining the 6000 crowd.
Horrible place and the end we were in was shite with a crap view. I recall there was a stand with a low standing paddock with seats behind to our right.
What a shit hole, a thoroughly depressing experience.

Whaddaya mean they didn't exist?
They were on TV man and HTD was at RP in RE circa 79.

Last one I recall with Sammy at Burnley was a night match.
L.James was winding up the Sunlun lads.
Later that night we pulled the transit up outside a fishy, some fucker went to the top of the queue,Mr James, he was promptly dropped by DR aka gunner

Wasn't Millwall "end" the large side paddock, a bit like Cardiff ?

Where in the old Den did they put away fans in the 70s as only went in 80s and was in small end behind goal with large paddock to left and seats to the right.

He does indeed
Thought he might:lol:

Still the same then, the seats to the right is where BB and the bell was, a few millwall got their heads rung that day, shields bus.

Harry the dog chasing My Boy Harry made me laugh.
It wasn’t funny at the time. Wet behind the ears and barely out of school and I have this lunatic on my tail.

You have a vivid imagination.
Nothing vivid about it. They came in and went berserk. Last I saw of them they trotted off towards the charlton end. Fortunately never to be seen again.

Grear post- Dont think I ever met Sammy, but I heard of him, 50 year old, any SAFC fans death is a lose to the Sunderland family. Sammy sounded like he was great fun to be with, lads like this who have travelled everywhere and have been involved for Sunderland win, lose or draw, and threw punches, are legends!!
