And then you wonder why Cat and her ilk still have anti British sentiment?
I am not anti British

I do however have an issue with Britian denying what happened. It really does make progress difficult.

I love Britain, really.

We made an agreement, we need to be held to it.

Britain has form for breaking promises mad with the Irish

We have automatic British citizenship should we choose to

My parents didn't
I didn't
My brothers and sisters didn't except for one.
You don't have to choose it under your circumstances - the fact that its automatic means exactly that. Neither did your parents at birth - theirs may have been revoked post 1949, I'm not sure.

Yours certainly hasn't been revoked - unless you have actively done it.

Did your parents register you on the Irish Overseas Birth Registry?

My parents were born Irish.
I have always had an Irish passport.

My mother is Welsh and her grandparents were Polish Jews.
My father was born in Dublin but my family were French/Catalonia nomads who settled in Ireland.

So I can't comment on lineage as I'm some kind of mongrel breed.

Which is why I was asking when you would forgive such an occupation?

You still hold France responsible for 1066, you went to war over an island of puffins.

When would you expect the Irish to just get over their population still being less than half what it was before they were slaughtered in their beds, starved, kicked off their lands.

They never for their lands back.
They will never get their records back.
Their many many dead.
They will never get their language back.
They will never get their country back.

When do you think they should get over that?
When would you if it was done to you?

How about a peace March that was then turned in to a blood bath of British soldiers executing unarmed youths and elderly people?

How about reneging on peace treaties?
How about allowing Catholics to be the worst treated minority in the United kingdom?
This isn't all from hundreds of years ago but it isn't unrelated to the situation now given the egregious nature of the occupation and the suffering incurred.

No it is because it was actively wiped out with prison or worse for those not abiding by the draconian laws imposed
What happened to 9 out of 10 Cat?

So? We have done some horrendous shit in the past, we are in good company.

We can't do anything about the behaviours of past governments, we can honour the GFA, given this guy is going to get his day in court we appear to be doing just that.

I'm registered and have one of those ppi numbers or whatever they are all my father's papers are Irish
He was one of very few Irish officers in the Crisis
All of those papers are Irish
Not until he married my mother here are his papers British and then they say he is Irish
He served with honour in the Irish Army
He really would have got rather upset had you called him British.
He had family killed in securing his Irish birth so it wasn't something he took lightly

I agree. Im just trying to put this in context.

Just because the British are wilfully or helplessly ignorant of the history here doesn't mean the Irish should have to just dumb everything down for them.

She nationality fluid or pan-national.
Seemingly anything but British. The country of her birth, upbringing, schooling (although somehow she managed to spend the majority of her childhood in Ireland despite being English schooled - canny commute), university (I particularly like how she tried to imply that she attended Kings College Dublin), and her entire adult life and career.

Shes as British as me and ironically wasn't automatically Irish.

It was 9 out of 10 by Cromwell hundreds of years ago.... the population TODAY is still less than half what it was.

Nobody is arguing about whether you have Irish citizenship - although it wasn't automatic and only happened because your parents registered you on the Overseas Birth Register.

You are the one claiming you are not British - even though you stated that you were automatically British. You do know what automatically means?

I could choose to take British citizenship. One of my brothers has.

It isn't an issue, although we do often comment on what a weirdo he is.

I have never chosen to and I have always had Irish citizenship.

I don't really think you are as Irish as me like

I don't really see how this is such an issue for you
Don't think the register was necessary.

Just needed to see my parents' birth and marriage cert and my birth cert and that was it. Passport handed over.
For the ppi number there was paperwork but more to do with banking regs iirc.

I think the Great Famine caused a greater decline in the population in Ireland than Cromwell's massacres and sackings. The figures from Cromwell's time are subject to debate because of the sources. Some claim it was 600,000 of the 1.4million population killed or sent into slavery but others say 200,000 of the 2million people living in the country.

There was 8.75million living in Ireland before the famine. There was a total of 1million deaths and about 1million people emigrated during 1845-49. The population dropped to 6.5million in 1851. Giving the growth of the population, in 1851 Ireland should have had a population of over 9million.

He wasn't.

His superior should be on the line with him.
There is no evidence.
Do you know they don’t know where hold the initial hearing? As the court they normally use was hit by a republican car bomber this year.

Again, you're showing massive arrogance here. Making out that everything is 'our' decision. It's not. The GFA was negotiated with multiple parties including input from Clinton's U.S. government. An amnesty for the British Army was not part of the GFA. You can't rewrite that agreement 20 years down the line.

Soldier B shot a young lad twice in the head from close range..so probably more balls than someone fleeing.
Wrong the GFA does cover the army. It covers everyone in the troubles.
The government are even trying to extend the dates covered by the GFA to include Bloody Sunday as its currently not covered.
But that will mean pardoning more terrorists.

There wasn't a famine.

Irish people were forced off their lands and made to pay ridiculous rents and were left to survive on potatoes which had a blight.

Food was leaving the country by wagon loads.
