Sunderland Council putting up allotment rents by 60%

But the council hardly touch allotments. There are about 2000 council allotments in Sunderland which will generate about £170k per year in fees. Does the council spend more than that on them?
I have no idea I dont live in sunderland but general point is council should of course provide, support and improve allotment provision but not at a lot of cost to tax payers.

The council have a legal responsibility to provide allotments where there is demand. There are several laws relating to this. I don’t think they are legally required to maintain, but it is generally accepted practice for them to do so.

Allotments and the law

so it's gone from a quid a week to about 30 bob?
Aye.
Should be a maximum of 5% increase as per tenancy agreements.
Instead they are trying to implement a 60% increase.
The actual pennies per week are negligible to me.
But to a lot of people, it is a great deal to lash out as you must pay in advance
Also if they get away with this, where does it end??
The Council are not playing the game correct, they are trying to get something implemented wrongly.

We had a few visitors from Texas over to the north east a few years ago, one bloke remarked at how shocked he was see the poverty in the UK. It's obviously not as affluent as Dallas, but I had to find out what he'd seen. He said he passed shanti towns on the way here.

Turns out it was allotments

Not WDSC!!!:evil::evil::evil:
Got my bill in for next year's allotment rent today.
From £52 last year 2018/19 to £84 for 2019/20.

A total f***ing disgrace - over 60% hike!!!
I will have to get onto the fuckers on Monday to sort this out.

Mines gone up from £55 to £66 I think - and that includes water rates/skip sometimes.

So for less than £1.27 a week I get a lovely bit of land to spend my retirement on.

This has only gone up because the Tories have taken £293million off our council - they said they would eradicate the National Deficit but they initially failed miserably and so had to pass all the debt onto councils by removing their central grants. The National Debt has now gone up to £3Trillion.
