Notre Dame (Paris) on fire?

Hopefully so mate, is it still on fire?

Yes its still on fire, watching it on the news, so much craftsmanship, and historical art is being destroyed, is a very sad thing, the things that building has witnessed, its just sad.:(

Is Muslims on every rooftop the adult version of monsters under the bed?
As long as it's only human life lost, and not a sacred building like you say. Sorry mate, but that post was shameful

To put it in perspective, it's not actually that rare in recent years, per Le Monde (at least in comparison to the huge number of churches in France):

Malgré le récent incendie de l’église Saint-Sulpice, les feux dans les églises sont des événements rares, nous rappelle Anne-Aël Durand, journaliste des Décodeurs du Monde. Alors qu’on estime qu’il y a près de 45 000 édifices chrétiens (églises, cathédrales, chapelles) en France, seuls 65 incendies ou tentatives d’incendie avaient été constatés en 2017, et 96 en 2016, par le Service central du renseignement territorial.

[Out of an estimate of around 45,000 Christian buildings (churches, cathedrals, and chapels) in France, only 65 fires or arson attempts happened in 2017 and 96 in 2016]
It's in French lad

You can disagree. There are 7.5 billion people. People voluntarily die for principles frequently. I'm not suggesting people should have been allowed to die simply out of negligence or apathy, but I wouldn't fault anyone who ran into a burning building trying to save some of the stuff inside or the building itself. It's their choice.

Are you also unable to read the translation I provided?

You said certain buildings (This one included) is more important than any of us (Human lives) Sorry but i find that distasteful, disgusting, and more than a bit odd if i'm honest. I'm gobsmacked tbh

I wouldn't fault anyone who dives back into their burning house /flat etc to save their treasured belongings. I wouldn't advise it, as life is more important than sentimental things, but you seem to disagree.

Do you count anything as being more important than a single human life?
Building wise ....no. Do you?

A building burning down, regardless, or in this case, more to the point, because of what it represents is material social progress.

Down with the old, in with the new. The natural order of things.

I don't think you're understanding the post quite in the way I intended it. Which is fine - lack of clarity in expression is my fault - but I'd have thought my more recent response to you would clear it up. The fact is that most individual people are massively insignificant to the course of humanity. This building isn't. That doesn't mean that one should be explicitly traded for the other. It simply means that some buildings are an achievement of many thousands of people over the years and are more significant than the works of any individual.

That said, I shouldn't have posted it in response to the post I did, which made it look like I thought it was ok if someone got hurt in the fire (other than the situation I posted above).
