Plantain

Brexit will have no effect on plantain imports. Stop spreading fake news and take some resposibility for what you post for once in your life. Not everything you post has to be a political statement ffs.
How are we going to get them then?

Currently imported to the EU under their trade agreements. Do you think Tesco have the same leverage as the EU?

I'm being serious here. Joe public in the UK have had so much misinformation pushed at them thet there's no understanding of the implications of these trade treaties.

I saw a piece on the BBC where a brexit supporting market stall halode said he's just get his oranges from South Africa and cut out the EU.

Rather tasty imo. Now I absolutely despise bananas and can't think of owt worse than a juiceless fruit, but slice up these fellas and fry them in a pan and they're lusheroony.

Serve piping hot with a sprinkling of sea salt and a scotch bonnet-based hot sauce.

You are going to probably reject this but my mother used to make a really bloody lovely risotto with chicken, peas and plantain. Loads of black pepper.

Was so tasty.:D

Looks like a banana, peels like a banana, consistency of a banana when raw, smells like a banana, but you eat it like it's a potato.

No that's not right. Shouldn't taste like potato man.

You need to buy them when they are all brown and shit.

They taste amazing and a bit like banana but not like potato.

I wasn't saying they taste like potato, I said you eat it like it's potato, as in it replaces potato. The ones I have are black as fuck mate.

Before I'd ever tried it, it was described to me as a bit like potato by a Jamaican woman. I agree with her.

It caramelises when you cook it though which potato doesn't

I've grown up eating plantain my whole life and I just don't see it like potato at all

They had them in a shop next to where I used to live but the big sign above them that read 'ATTENTION WHITE PEOPLE: THESE ARE NOT BANANAS!' was a little off putting.
Kinda shows that a little bit of racism can be funny, and perfectly fine tbh.

Only eaten it once, and can't remember it - something I'd like to try.

Love bananas anarl.

I said a 'bit' like a potato.

I think the Jamaican woman who compared it to a potato has been eating it all her life too tbh.
