Greatest Sportsman Ever

Not for me. Sportsman has to include athletic ability at an incredible level.

I'm not bothered if others think Tiger is best.

Each to their own I guess, so fair enough.

For me its about taking your sport to a level never seen before, and if a sportsman in the future takes his or her sport to something never seen before they have the right to be considered the greatest sportsman imo.

Any consideration of the best ever sportsman should take into account the range of skills that sport tests, rather than just a person's level of dominance of that sport.

So golf, darts, snooker - haway man. And I like snooker.

The modern Triatholon although I expect golf will be replaced by Candy Crush.

Well yeah at the time very difficult to surpass that.

Only problem was for a lot of it he was playing nobody, the depth in talent simply was not there

You could argue when both at their peak Van Gerwen better.

But will never have as good career as Taylor as competition a lot higher now

Loads of people play darts. Many more than play golf.

I suppose Paula Radcliffe doesn’t qualify because of the thread title?

However I’ll mention her because the fact she was able to regularly beat a field of athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia at all is impressive. To defend a world record in the marathon for so long, without relying on cheating by taking drugs, against such opposition is staggering.

a world best (rather than a WR - as she was paced by men) and lets just say 'never caught' (she had suspicious blood values found after her records were hacked)
