World Cup squad

due to be named today I think. But unlimited changes for a month, which basically makes it pointless

Roy
Bairstow
Hales
Root
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Ali
Rashid
Woakes
Wood
Archer
Willey
Plunkett

And then probably Denly

Oz have picked Warner and Smith

Don't think Archer is gonna be in the original 15, he will be in the 17 man squad for Pakistan, with a few others like Jordan etc when others are rested, but baring injury will then be put in the 15

Tom Curran will be in

My money is on Willey or Plunkett missing out on Archer, seems to be the way its heading, the cricket media are petty well connected and close.

I think that'd be wrong mind, Curran should be left out.

Seems we have plenty to select from....of those on the fringes Archer is looking pretty good in the IPL, (although his team are up and down), Denly has played one game in the IPL and got a first baller, Sam Curran is performing ok and is a regular in his team.

Like others I don't think they will be able to resist the temptation of picking Archer, probably at the expense of Plunkett

yes as thats his nationality.

Jason Roy - Born in South Africa
Eoin Morgan - Born in Ireland
Ben Stokes - Born in New Zealand

Can argue that both Stokes and Roy had their cricketing educations in this country so to speak (Roy moved here when he was 10, Stokes 12). Depends how flexible you want to be on the ruling, it's gone on for years I accept, but this Archer thing does make me uncomfortable, particularly given that the residency rules changed more or less to get him in the world cup squad.

Or maybe just in line with the ICC regulations which are 3 years residency and also the fact that ICC dont regard U19s as international matches either

So in reality the ECB are late to the game in standardising the residency rules

If that's the rules then fair enough, just a bit uncomfortable with it all tbh.
What is there to feel uncomfortable about?

He is English, he has an English passport, he meets the ECB and ICC rules regarding residency which are aligned for consistency.

I would agree if it was someone with no connection to the UK (no parentage etc) but this is a completely different.

He's an English resident, he's half English at best by blood and has been born and raised in the West Indies, as well as playing for their youth sides. In the eyes of the ICC he's English fair enough, but he's not really English, is he?

I've no issue at all with people who are British at birth representing us if all they've done is play for another nation at junior level. Olivier on the other hand would be different.

He is British full stop. That is by virtue of his parentage and this is backed up by the passport he has. They dont just hand them out like confetti.

Likewise Ben Stokes, Had the majority of his childhood in New Zealand with a Kiwi father. Therefore using your argument he's "not really English" either. Are you comfortable with him representing England and being vice-captain?
Maybe his Sussex team mate Chris Jordan shouldnt have played for England either. Born in Bardados too. Both parents were born in Bardados too, but his grandparents were British passport holders
