9/11, This is powerful footage to watch.

Drove back from playing pool with my mate. Radio was reporting a plane crash. Got home, sky news on and I reckon in less than ten seconds of it being on the second plane hit.

Thought I had watched nearly everything about 9/11 but never seen this before! Still amazes me this actually happened in our lifetimes and the magnitude of it all is just massive. Stood on top of them towers only weeks before it fell and was attacked so always feel closer to this than usual.

Remember I was off college and me and a mate decided to head back to mine to play on FIFA or some shite and my dad was at the front window banging on the window waving his hands to tell us to get in and watch it all unfold. Missed the first plane but seen everything in sheer silence.

Everyone missed the first as it wasn't captured by any news channels and only came to light later when footage emerged from fire fighters on the street.

I had just signed up for a course, got home, switched the tv on and the first plane had already hit, watched the second one hit live and I was really disturbed by it. I rang my step ma and asked her if she'd seen what was going on - she said it could be the end of the world.
I watched news non stop for days, it truly disturbed me tbh and I hope I never see shit like that again.

Still haunts me to this day watching it unfold on TV. I was in dock doing repairs when someone said a light aircraft had hit one of the twin towers! (I had been to New York and had food in the windows of the world in the north tower 2 months before) when we had a break we watched it on the telly! Still shocking today how it could have happened!!! I was back in New York in February and the 9/11 museum is heartbreaking!
This is what I thought would have been the case at the time. I thought about the plane crash that happened on the Empire State building in the past, and assumed it must a been a similar accident.

I was off work and watching BBC News which had a bloke explaining that it was probably a pleasure flight that had gone wrong - then the second plane hit live on air. The mood changed very quickly after that. An extraordinary day.

Yeah that's what we were told, that it was a light aircraft that hit the tower! How wrong!! It was strange to see them gone and how small the footprint of the towers actually was! As when you stood next to them they were massive!!!

I forgot to add that one of my mates had been to the twin towers a few weeks before also.
Although I never saw the Twin Towers in person, the emptiness of the sky left behind was vast to see on the news footage. At the time you could literally 'feel' the emptiness left behind.

We were at Centre Parcs for week. Came back in from something and flicked tv on and thought it was a film at first then we both just sat glued to
The tv rest of day

I was working as a taxi driver at the time, and just sat in the office watching the events unfold in utter disbelief.

And yet, to this day, we have loons claiming it was the US government that did it.

Yeah, at that point it turned from most people not knowing and assuming it was an accident, to 'America is under attack'.

I remember seeing a thread on here titled something like “horrible plane crash”, I was having a busy day at work and was planning on leaving early so I didn’t open it. I was a network engineer at the time and started getting reports of problems accessing certain sites, especially BBC news. I investigated and found it was not us, it was something odd happening on the web.

I had to pop down to our hardware lab for something and they had a TV going. I saw footage of the second plane hit. My first thought was “fuck, how did that happen, it didn’t even try to bank away”. After watching it for a bit, I realised the other tower was on fire before the plane hit. It took ages to piece together in my mind what had happened and that it could only have been deliberate.

I was heading out to The Elbow Rooms in Leeds, where they always had lots of music on screens and loads of pool tables. The screens were all news that day as people tried to put together the latest. Most people took a few shots and then stopped to watch in disbelief.

I have seen clips from this footage but never the whole thing. When you get the chance, watch this in its entirety. It is still hard to grasp that such a thing happened.
I remember at the time I was giving a lecture to new students in the lecture theatre and when I finished and walked of stage, a colleague told me the news that a plane has been reported to have crashed into one of the Twin Towers. At that point, little did I know of what was to come.
In the staffroom, we kept an eye on the news and what further developed, shocked us all greatly.
The whole matrix of the world shifted greatly that day.

What was the happenings of your day like, when you heard the news coming through?

I’d left college early that day, there were no classes that afternoon we had just started back, mate had his Dad’s car in that day so got a lift home, flicked on the telly and spent the rest of the afternoon glued to the news with me mate on the end of the phone for a couple of hours, just shell shocked. I remember the next few days it felt like everything had changed and nobody knew what the fuck was going to happen.

I was in New York that day. I won't watch footage like that intentionally. A lot of my mates were killed and the camera crews zoomed in to get a better story.

At the time, although we had the internet, social media had not taken off like it is today. You could imagine what the internet would be like now, if this event had occurred today.

Sorry to hear this mate.

I've watched load of stuff about 9/11, but found this tonight, decided to watch it, was moved by it and it took me back to the feelings that I had that day of shock as I watched the TV in disbelief.

Had just came home from school. I was only in reception so didn't comprehend it all til years later but I can vividly remember my mam, nana and grandad being absolutely star struck and shit scared.

I was working offshore, just going back to work after lunch. My wife and I were due to go to New York on holiday the following Thursday and a colleague said to me "Where are you going next week, because I don't think you will be" The OIM (platform boss) had a television in his office and we watched the events unfold in a state of horror and disbelief. Our plan had been to go to New York, tour New England and return from Boston. We considered cancelling but decided to do the trip in reverse and see whether people along our route thought we should go to New York or not which they all, to a man, said we should. Most of them couldn't believe that we'd got on a plane to come to America after that but were hugely appreciative that we had. New York was brilliant and resilient but there were reminders all over the place, cork boards with photos of missing persons, fire stations with tributes, trucks still removing debris from the site even a fortnight after the event. Lower Manhattan was off limits to tourists, as you would expect but the New Yorkers were trying to get back to normal. I went to the first baseball game after the atrocity, Yankees against the Chicago White Sox. The Yankees won but it was a surreal atmosphere and all eyes turned to the skies whenever a plane passed overhead. It wasn't the holiday we planned but I'm glad we did it.
