9/11, This is powerful footage to watch.

I have seen clips from this footage but never the whole thing. When you get the chance, watch this in its entirety. It is still hard to grasp that such a thing happened.
I remember at the time I was giving a lecture to new students in the lecture theatre and when I finished and walked of stage, a colleague told me the news that a plane has been reported to have crashed into one of the Twin Towers. At that point, little did I know of what was to come.
In the staffroom, we kept an eye on the news and what further developed, shocked us all greatly.
The whole matrix of the world shifted greatly that day.

What was the happenings of your day like, when you heard the news coming through?

Yes that is a great clip, absolutely gutting when she cries and he hugs her. I remember I was on a train at Durham and an old bloke told me two planes had crashed into the towers and I thought he had lost his mind.

Check this one out.

I was working and it was weird. We used to use a foreign exchange in the towers so would be on the phone to them quite alot

Got told to go home early

People were just getting on the first trains out of the city regardless of the destination

I was pretty calm until my mate called me in a panic telling me to get out as there were threats and alerts and no aeroplanes in the sky

Went home and just watched the news for hours

Off

I worked in a pub at the time and this played out live on a tv in the snug. I remember sitting on a table in absolute shock. I didn’t realise at that time the magnitude of what I’d just watched.

I was loading wagons as a human fork lift truck when someone said America have declared war with Afghanistan.

If we're doing a "where was I" thread, I'll go again. I was on a Virgin flight from Heathrow to San Francisco. We got to somewhere over Greenland and the captain told us that he couldn't give more details but US air space was closed and we had to turn back. From what I've subsequntly found out, we were pretty much as far as you could fly without having to land in Canada. Didn't know details until we landed and I didn't really fully comprehend anything until I got home and put the TV on.

Rabbit away here like.

Was working for a company that had some major invetsment banks as clients, who had offices in the WTC. I didn't know anyone personally who worked there but some colleagues did or worked with others who did. Some from our company had been to WTC not long before the attack and I think some were over there at the time but fortunately not there. Was a strange day - went from watching that during the day to visiting my mother after work to celebrate her birthday.

That is heartbreaking to watch. There must be many people with such powerful, harrowing accounts etched in their memories.

His accounts remind me of 'The Falling Man'.

Same here. I was glued to the screen, knowing that something has happened that is going to change the world.

I worked next door to a TV rental company so went through having heard "there was a fire" to see the second plane hit...felt completely sick.
I can remember some of this day, like it was yesterday. The madness of it was hard to comprehend at the time, and still is when you reflect on it.

Thought I had watched nearly everything about 9/11 but never seen this before! Still amazes me this actually happened in our lifetimes and the magnitude of it all is just massive. Stood on top of them towers only weeks before it fell and was attacked so always feel closer to this than usual.

Remember I was off college and me and a mate decided to head back to mine to play on FIFA or some shite and my dad was at the front window banging on the window waving his hands to tell us to get in and watch it all unfold. Missed the first plane but seen everything in sheer silence.

This states the sheer magnitude of how this day affect many of us on that day.

Still haunts me to this day watching it unfold on TV. I was in dock doing repairs when someone said a light aircraft had hit one of the twin towers! (I had been to New York and had food in the windows of the world in the north tower 2 months before) when we had a break we watched it on the telly! Still shocking today how it could have happened!!! I was back in New York in February and the 9/11 museum is heartbreaking!

I was on lates at the time and in bed, one of my team called and just said "get up and put the news on". The first plane had hit and I watched the rest unfold in utter disbelief. Absolutely unbelievable, crazy.

coming up to 18 years ago. Mental.

I was only 10. I was in middle school. Remember the afternoon vividly. It was very warm and I was thirsty sat on the school bus home. Got off at the first stop which I rarely did rather than go around the houses and get off at my usual stop. Jogged home, burst into the front room and through to the kitchen. Family were stood in silence watching the news which I found odd but carried on regardless. Came back in and it was explained. The news stayed on the tele in front room as well as my tele after school for the rest of the week. It actually felt odd when I changed the channel and watched something else.

18 years ago man.

I was in my last year at Uni and was also self employed. This was one of my working days. Was in the house and took my usual, natural break to get a cuppa and some grub. Stuck on the news, again as was usual. First tower was on fire. Second tower yet to be hit. Saw the explosion and like pretty much everyone else, didn't realise precisely what had happened. News started reporting a second plane quite shortly after. At that point there was a realisation that this was very bad - no accident. Had a brief exchange of texts with a mate that went like this:
Me "We're all going to die"
Mate "A bit dramatic"
Me "Turn on a telly somewhere immediately"
Mate (after a couple of minutes delay) "Fuck"

Spent rest of the day doing no work and trying to get as much info as possible from various sources, including here IIRC. Internet then became pretty much impossible (dial up back then!) so gave up and just sat watching the telly, utterly stunned.
