I've looked and according to the Echo:

The club hierarchy is also looking at how much it pays Northumbria Police after being handed a bill of £347,618 from the organisation, a figure which is more than double what nearby Newcastle United paid at £167,613, despite the Magpies having an average attendance which is almost twice as high as Sunderland’s last season.

Theres a kind of mass denial from the majority of their fans on Twitter. Like that forum of theirs theres some who aren't condoning it.
But in the majority it seems most think its lies, exaggeration or the most common line - its not on but they deserve it.

Baring in mind theres proof from people who took pics and vids, plus the entirety of the stadium CCTV which will come out soon enough, they're in a for a shock.
And bearing in mind the state of their club they really shouldn't be laughing of the possible fines or damages safc or others may take out against them

I just messaged Stewart Donald on Twitter re the situation. This was his reply:

I heard it and saw. I have requested a full report sent to me ASAP. I am distraught our fans appeared to be subjected to what I think I saw and if so is completely unacceptable. I should have gone over in person myself to help stop it. I will say more once I have investigated.
Good to hear Mr Donald is looking into it.

No way should we let this Coventry scum sweep it under the carpet. Despicable club and despicable supporters.

As been stated we pay a hell for our policing (a lot more than our nearest and dearest) its about Northumbria Police earned their money and arrest this Coventry scum

Why aren't you upset? If I had seen this I would be seething and I would report it to the club.
Have you reported what you saw?

It is the club's responsibility
The police, stewards and away fans are to blame but the club is meant to have such things under control.
Subsequent to incidents the club also has to take appropriate action on behalf of the fans.
Piss off.

Hopefully some decent fines that will do a lot of damage too them.

That's been brought up before. It's do with Police costs depending on if they are on public land or private land. We own more of the land around our stadium compared to NUFC so it costs us more to put Police on it.

No you f***ing piss off.

You witnessed several crimes and have done fuck all about it except tell the victims to calm down.

What is wrong with you?

For evil to prosper all that is required is that good men do nothing.
Just incase you haven't noticed, I do not and in the future will not engage with you on this site.

And to the Coventry fans forum saying we'd have done the same, our fans are no saints etc etc. No, we take 1000s away every week, took 40,000 to Wembley, and we are constantly praised for our behaviour.

Throwing missiles onto fans below is as low as it gets. it's incredibly dangerous. One or two incidents, i get that you will always get one idiot. But it was non stop for long periods. Vile.

Regards to the policing, I've still never forgotten how NP treated our fans at Central all those years back after the Hearts friendly in Edinburgh.

The priority is for the club is to the the away fans back in Sheepfolds where equalisers can be summarily dished out. You know it makes sense Donald :D

Looked at least 18 polis alone in the tunnel were the ground staff stand to watch the match

Mind polis in telling lies shock

There was stuff been hoyed all owa from the Coventry scum yet they were just stood there watching it happen

Rubbish

Hardly always full of away fans on a matchday I've been in least 6 times this season & maybe seen nee more than a dozen away fans in there mind this is only till about 1800 then I gan in the deaf club

On a midweek match mind but odd time I've been in on a Saturday never seen away fan
Did u hear anything else about it kicking off in there. Hope none of our boys were hurt. There was Defo a few in there who were loving the fact they had the numbers on us.

I'm in the North West corner and saw everything, I understand you are very upset at what happened and I would be the same had I sat there however, I don't agree with it was all the fault of the club, the club were not throwing things over that balcony the Coventry fans were, I fully agree the Police and stewards should have done more and that's down to the match commander, the club can't order the Police to do something they are unwilling to do. I'm sure it will be dealt with in due course.

The reason the club is at fault is that they would know the risk of this type of thing happening and they have a duty to mitigate that risk. There clearly was no plan in place and nobody had the foggiest idea what to do. That’s the clubs fault.
