Missiles being hoyed all game from North Stand Upper

The club have a duty of care. If they stepped on it early when it was isolated incidents it never would have escalated. Was only goals 4 and 5 that were a major problem, when it was in excess of 100 items coming down on us at a time. And if they can’t control the fans, they have the power to stop the game and exclude individuals from the ground before restarting play.

They agreed to move the away fans and as part of this process, they will have had to agree with the health and safety executive action plans in the case of every viable threat including this. Where was this action plan today? Because it didn’t get executed, and that is a major failing on the clubs part and they should rightly feel the force of the law against them. The biggest problem today was the lack of action from a combination of NP and SAFC.
Exactly mate

If you fail to plan
You plan to fail

Hope they've got the twats on cctv
Supposedly nigh on 100 cameras in the ground mate.
These cowards should be brought to book for this.

the club do have a duty of care, and that is to employ stewards and police to manage this type of thing. sounds to me like the stewards and police couldnt really be arsed to try and even start to deal with it. in the heat of the moment i'm not sure what 'the club' could have done, other than trust the people they pay and employ to deal with it. maybe a giant net is the answer. there is loads of grounds, i.e st james, where the away fans are above home fans, like ours has been for years, and it never has appeared to be a problem before. thats why, for me, the blame lies pretty much entirely on the coventry fans

The entity that is the club is the safety officer, ultimately in charge of the game, amongst others. He has the power to postpone or delay the game. This option could have been exercised if they couldn’t control the away fans. Or if they’d stepped in at the start and took control it would never have escalated like this. It hasn’t been a problem for years because the police elsewhere are not downright incompetent, and would have taken action early on.

And the first thing that would happen at the sign of trouble is Donald and Charlie will have been made aware and they’ll have visited the control room to assist where possible.

And I don’t buy there wasn’t enough police. There was plenty in the north stand lower and another 30 that appeared at the base of both the north and south stands whenever we scored a goal. When was the last time any of the old men in the north stand invaded the pitch to need these officers? Whole thing was a shambles, from the very top of the club down. Police chief, safety officer and club owner should all be equally embarrassed and responsible for today’s events.

I'm not saying you're lying but I find this so hard to believe. If it's true it's utterly disgraceful and the stewards in question need their licence took off them. Heading back to the 80s football, it's sickening and so sad to see.

Think this is where most of the frustration came from for most as well. When i left all of the brewing trouble was directed at the police outside. They were getting a sickening amount of abuse from our fans walking past, deservedly so in my eyes.

I can remember a few years ago (I think when Paul Weir was in charge of security) a big "show" on local tv of how powerful the cameras were, and that if you threw anything they would find you. Surely after the first few missiles (especially the flare) they should have zoomed in and wound back and sent about 5 plod in to get each offender(s). Once the Coventry (and no doubt Portsmouth to come) saw arrests being made it would stop. There was also certain individuals hanging over the top goading the whole North Stand - surely they did enough to be removed/arrested?

Exactly

Makes me even more angry when I got pulled up by a steward last season for calling the ref a baldy headed coot

He thought I said something else starting with a C & ending in T

But they couldn't identify people throwing things

The club is absolutely liable. If someone is hurt and I’m need of medical attention the club will be panicking about being sued.

The thing is though mate; if you read the Coventry board, some just think we are bad losers . When in reality, yesterday was the worst trouble I’ve seen inside the SOL since it opened.

Whilst the club may be liable, they also have a duty of care towards the fans in that stand. Yesterday they failed and today they need to make some sort of statement and put pressure on Coventry to sort out their support. Make no mistake, it’s pure luck that no one was seriously hurt yesterday.

It’s pretty worrying, when you turn from your seat and just see bottle after bottle being chucked.

Tbf mate most of them agree it was bang out of order
Most that accept it actually happened.

From reading that forum most seem to think it's made up shite from us 'scousers of league one' who are always the victim!:rolleyes::lol:

So they've obviously been reading this thread
Well, for your benefit Coventry fans, yes it did happen. You had children crying and forced to leave and others having to get treatment for head injuries.
Any fan base with class would have policed their own fans with others having a word, but it seems you didn't even have the class or courage to do that!!

Spot on mate. A good away support can police itself, but Coventry yesterday were shameful. Those at the front of their support were laughing their arses off as the bottles/coins came down.

If we play them again next season, I do feel sorry for their genuine fans because they will get a very rough ride.

Stoked up rivalry has undoubtedly caused the ill feeling amongst posters of both teams mate. Plenty on here would have posted the same about being bad losers if we had won the game.
This thread is about cowardly behaviour of a minority of idiots who came to Sunderland yesterday .
Those on their board that saw what happened are just as angry as I am about it.

So you’re a Northumbria Policeman?

No mate, that’s just corrective text at its worst timing.

This absolutely did happen. There was a ground of 20 odd year olds who stood all game at the front surrounded by police, yet were allowed to throw things despite being in touching distance of the police. Two stewards leaned over and were mocking our fans and laughing, hence the large surge of anger backwards by a whole stand around 80 minute mark.

So it was the stewards laughing then. Well, why isn’t somebody reporting them?

Saw this, was over the moon with the North stands reaction. Lost faith a bit with our support not backing each other up over the years OK the odd occasion it has flashed up around the country but the mass condemnation of that was class to see. Hopfully Coventry feel repercussions of this for there last few games of the season and the efl reducde there allocations or something.

Two orange stewards right at the front of the upper.

At this moment In time I'd doubt that. Never mind punishment, or even a statement from safc, there hasn't even been any form of acknowledgement from the club, owners, police or local press. In fact it seems to me it's being widely (deliberately???) Ignored
