Sunderland Council putting up allotment rents by 60%

It's the principle of the whole thing though.
The Council do absolutely sweet F.A. towards the upkeep of the allotments- it is up the tenants.
The gadgey who used to come round and spray the weeds around the perimeter fences even got paid -off, and I have only seen the Allotment Officer once in 9 years.
By the way, I can well afford it marra, but that's not the point.
- But the widow who has the next allotment to me has next to fuck all - so she's well pissed off - extra money she can ill-afford.
Id scrap the f***ing lot.eyesores full of rats. Not to mention the fires..its 2019 ffs, the wars owa.

£84 a year seems pretty reasonable tbh.

Thought it would cost 5 or 6 times that amount.
Agree fair enough.

On my allotment site someone got a plot who had moved up from the South. When he heard how much we paid for the year he thought it was for a month - he was very happy. I dont think allotment plots up north are that expensive.

People must not have much in their life if they are kicking off about £1.50 a week allotment rent. :)

The price difference across London alone is ridiculous. A full plot on our site is £52, I have heard of others that are £300+ for the same size with no extras

My granddad used to have four plots next to each other.

I f***ing hated being dragged down to help out. A full days graft of weeding and turning over soil and the old fucker used to complain at having to buy me a bag of sweets.

I suspect it's been a case of keep the price low for as long as possible but when it goes up, it goes up. Given central government cuts to local government, I'd imagine none of the options were agreeable.
