Reading that Burnley want a permanent deal for Dunne!

i guess thats a fair enough argument...but the fact that Egan has had a decent record at Championship level ibdicates he should at least been given some sort of opportunity whilst here...eg in the Cup games v Carlisle, Pools, etc etc
John Egan is 26, he left Sunderland five years ago and he signed for Sheffield United this season. You think we should have lads 25 year old playing in the odd cup game for four seasons in case we get relegated two divisions again?

mcshane even now plays in the same league as egan..and thats with mcshane past his prime...shows how far egan has to go..
Bit disingenuous.

McShane at 33 could be considered to still be at his peak with his experience. Egan is only 26 & now approaching his peak.

Yes, they are employed by clubs who play in the same division, but McShane has made 4 appearances for a club who are 4th bottom of the table, whereas Egan has played 37 games for the team in second place.

As a club we are far to eager to write players off and discard them. The supporters sometimes don’t help with this either.

Everyone is shite.

i dont think 33 is the peak for a player..yes egan probably is in his peak..so at his peak he is a championship player..

That's why I mentioned experience.

I must admit I find your argument as to Egan quite bizzarre. If Utd go up, & he stays at the club, does that mean then at his peak he's a Premiership player?

if he makes the grade in the prem yes. ie if he gets on the sheff utd team in the top flight. which he might. my point is, he is twenty six, and it has talen him years to get there, we couldnt have kept him on the books for years in the hope he would be good enough.

I'm not arguing the point that we should have kept him. At the time he wasn't good enough, simple as.

At this moment in time, we don't know if Egan HAS reached his peak. Without doubt he's playing at a level higher than he was a year or so ago, but what's to say he can't go further? Still, it's not our problem. Good luck to the lad is all I have to say.

fair enough..and i cant comment on the level at which he is performing as an individual..but he was championship last two seasons? mid table championship? he is now with ateam slightly higher than that?

Yes, I'd say second in the table is higher than mid-table.

If you're asking can he cut it at Premier League level, I have no idea. He's no Harry Maguire I can say that with certainty, but when, if United go up, & he remains a central part of their plans next season, then we'll find out.

Not really, we were a premier league team at the time we got shot of him and he’s never made it back to that level yet. So on that basis moving him on was justified.
Remember that this is not a perfect science but it could be argued that there are players that we have developed and got rid of who would atvthe very least made good squad players.

Whether they would have accepted that situation though is a moot point.

Even man united get this wrong!

Think he's shite. His touch is really poor & he looks all over the place a lot of the time.

Don't buy all this potential talk. Surely every young player is classed as having potential?

We need to rip up the centre back position and start again in the summer, they're all not good enough.
