Scandi noir/drama recommendations/discussion

New Danish movie out soon. With Trine Dyrholm (from The Legacy) as main character.

Won a few awards already including Audience Award at Sundance the other week.

Not out here in DK till March but thought I would pop the trailer on here anyway as the movie has received some fine reviews already.

If you watch the movie before me am interested to hear what you think of it.

Also, a new series of Follow the Money is currently being aired here. I think the BBC bought the broadcasting rights to the first series so am hoping they have picked up this as well.

And if my memory hasn't drifted off completely the BBC also aired the the first movies in the Q series. Number four was released late last year and +730,000 people saw it at the movie theatres here, grossing 72,5 million kroner, which is a new Danish movie theatre record.

Hoping the BBC has bought the broadcasting rights for this one, too.

Just finished reading booked called The Chestnut Man , Norwegian author who wrote The Killing , every chance this will end up on TV also , good read

Haven't found a trailer to the new series but Below the Surface II kicks off here Monday 25 March. Looking forward to this. Hopefully should be on UK telly in the not too distant future.

In the Autumn a brand new crime drama kicks off as well. Called DNA. Will keep yous up-dated.

Anyone watching Trapped? It's not very good but the credits are a delight. I now think of myself as Christopher Johnsson and my lass as Helen Colinsdottir... :D

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but I'm into season 4 of the French spy drama 'The Bureau '. I'd highly recommend it. Based on true accounts apparently.
Don’t think I’ve heard of this, what channel is it on?

Hopefully should be on UK telly in the not too distant future.
The first series took 18 months to surface here... hopefully bbc4 get their act together, distinct lack of danish output recently...

I stream it from SBS on demand here in Australia. Basically it's a multicultaral channel which showcases tv from all over the world. They were also the original bastions of football in this country as well and still show Premier League on a Saturday night.
Getting back to the Bureau I'm not sure where you'd get it. A VPN might be the go. It's free from SBS. They have a massive catalogue of these European type drama shows available as well as English shows Taboo, McMafia etc.

Also Berlin Station was another enjoyable spy drama. Season 1 excellent season 2 dropped abit then season 3 back to it's best. IMO of course.

Not a patch on the first series but I will watch every episode cos it's Icelandic.

Yeah, series 2 has been decent but not brilliant.

Season 1 surfaced on More 4 late last year (or early this year?). I thought it was good.

Has the first series of Ride Upon the Storm finished at your end ? And was the entire series shown on the telly or did they put it on a Play thingie ?

A new series of Those Who Kill has begun here as well. Eight episodes in total in this second series.

Second series of Sygeplejeskolen kicks off tonight. Similar to Badehotellet. Badehotellet series six finished last week and has been named Best Danish Telly Series five years running now. Series seven is already in the planning.

Later this year new and interesting looking series are coming up:

Straight Forward is said to be Nordic Noir meets New Zealandic humour and is set in both Copenhagen and New Zealand.

Fred Til Lands, a new series set in Fyn and made by the same folks who did Rita and Hjørdis (both can be found on Netflix).

And one I am really looking forward to. Forhøret. With a cast of Ulrich Thomsen, Lars Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Trine Dyrholm, Søren Malling, Lars Ranthe and David Dencik what is not to like. Made by Christoffer Boe who penned and directed Kriger. Forhøret is about a policeman who is determend to find the person who killed his daughter. Each episode will have a new suspect in for interrogation and the entire series takes place over twenty-four hours.

And finally for now, second series of The Rain will be up on Netflix later this year.

No links on Kodi for Episode 1 yet (yes i'm keen ) so as you say hopefully BBC pick it up again soon.

I thought Season 2 was the best of the lot personally but as you say it's all opinion. Great show anyway.

finally got round to seeing the end of warrior (Kriger) on netflix, i would certainly recommend it to everyone who likes a good danish series - it has a few familiar faces and follows the usual dk series rhythms. i assume there will be a second series as the ending was staged so that many threads are open for future development (sadly the climax of the 1st story is undermined by doing so!).

still worth checking out if you've got netflix...

Don't know if the link works outside DK but this is the official trailer for series two.

Gidseltagningen II

works here in the uk... looks pretty good, few familiar faces anarl... think it was june/july when it was shown over here last time, would expect bbc4 to show it at some point in time.
