After Life

Yeah , I assumed he would save him, then he didn't, then I thought oh well it will haunt him, thats the point

But he didn't seem bothered

I kind of lose faith in the character then

I am a bit baffled by his non-reaction to it

Exactly. I thought it was a really odd route to take. If he wasn't going to rescue him then I at least expected some sort of remorse. I don't know what his non-reaction achieved.

Er...that's what I said !

That was the point where I went off it. Along with him paying a therapist who wasn't listening...

He identified with the heroin user and paid for him die so he could be reunited with his wife in death- like he wants to via suicide- its murder in my book like

Yeah I get that, but to then show no emotion about it, I just lost faith with the character a bit.

Oh aye or manslaughter, you'd go down

Its a TV show so thats not the issue for me like, its almost like he wrote it for dramatic effect (I thought it was a really good powerful scene) its just the lack of follow up

I don't get it, didn't tie up with the charachter at all

As I say in post above, I think it was a class scene, great TV, it was just the next episode I was non-plussed, I kept waiting for it to be brought up then it never was really

Maybe but its not just that, comedy shows and TV shows in general need characters who have a lot of spare time on their hands, it just wouldn't work having the characters at work all day (unless its about the work like the office), it means they can get up to all sorts

Its why a lot of shows don't have kids for the large part, too much time spent explaining where they are etc

Imagine if all the plots had to be fit into between 6 and 10 at night when people get out of work!

Thats my view anyway, I don't pay too much attention to that part for that reason, all shows are unrealistic, best not to overthink it.

Well yes there are things in TV shows like only sitting on 3 sides of the dinner table , and what you describe possibly applies in soaps and sitcoms to keep things moving.
However sometimes things are portrayed in particular ways for a reason and to actually make you think on more than one dimension .

Look how much debate and differing views this series has thrown up on this thread alone. TV that makes you think and form opinions is good TV .

What did people make of him
giving the junkie the money to kill himself? I genuinely thought he was going to jump out of bed and find him

I think a psychologist could explain it better , maybe a symptom of depression?
but I reckon he emphasised with the junkie and he felt he helped him achieve what he wanted,
but it’s just another example where Ricky Gervais has provoked reaction and comment from a sitcom , good writing .

That’s not what I said......why watch the whole lot if you don’t like it......
 Is it such a hard concept to grasp that someone might start watching a six part comedy - decide halfway through its not great - but watch till the end anyway to see what happens ?

I'd heard the last episode was particularly mawkish shite and instead of jumping straight to iit I watchedwatched them in order

Why would you, if I don’t like something I turn it off, I don’t get your logic

How can a bloke who works for a free paper make such a good living that he can afford to run a house on his own in an affluent market town (which is apparently near a beach), has started on heroin (but just the twice and didn't take it any further) has a prostitute friend has perfect teeth and skin, make such a good living?
