After Life

I think that a lot of the setting being in a middle England market town, nice house, not far from a park, near the beach, has a job, has disposable cash etc
(aspirational goals for some)
was to accentuate the effects of his depression , his loss etc
and maybe to encourage a reaction from the viewers?

Maybe but its not just that, comedy shows and TV shows in general need characters who have a lot of spare time on their hands, it just wouldn't work having the characters at work all day (unless its about the work like the office), it means they can get up to all sorts

Its why a lot of shows don't have kids for the large part, too much time spent explaining where they are etc

Imagine if all the plots had to be fit into between 6 and 10 at night when people get out of work!

Thats my view anyway, I don't pay too much attention to that part for that reason, all shows are unrealistic, best not to overthink it.

I know it is. That was my point.

I thought your point was the opposite, must have misread

Same here

Thought it was brilliant, if I didn't I would have turned it off and watched something else......not sure why people watch the whole lot then slag it off......
Didn't set out watching it with the intention of disliking it ffs
Surely you've watched plenty of shite at St James', sat through it to the end and then slagged it orf??

Same, apart from being suicidal, like
It was the hatred of the noisy eater in the office that was most similar.

I was willing him to use the can of dog food as a weapon against the 2 muggers ... he did eventually.

Mostly it was how he didn’t hold back from telling some truths although I do have some social skills.

Are you a terrible actor too?
Yes and I have a goatee and shoot up heroin recreationally.

The only bit I don't get, unless it comes in last episode

He helped someone commit suicide, but he doesn't seem remotely f***ing bothered

Am I missing something? Kinda makes everything else he feels or any redemption null and void doesnt it?

genuine question

What did people make of him
giving the junkie the money to kill himself? I genuinely thought he was going to jump out of bed and find him

should have scrolled up before I posted

Yeah , I assumed he would save him, then he didn't, then I thought oh well it will haunt him, thats the point

But he didn't seem bothered

I kind of lose faith in the character then

I am a bit baffled by his non-reaction to it

Er...that's what I said !

That was the point where I went off it. Along with him paying a therapist who wasn't listening...

Watched the first four episodes and I think it’s been very good.

Think it’s well written and brilliantly mixes the comedy with the real lows of the situation gervais character is feeling.

Not a contest mate.

I don't get that part, I was right behind him before that, then when he didn't go rescue him I thought, well fuck him

I still enjoyed it for the most part, but I like good use of music in TV and film, so that is partly why
